That scene had an example of what I thought was unique about Open Range, its sound recording and editing. The sound of the shotgun, rifles, and pistols was different than in almost any movie I recall. It had a low frequency boost which the made sound of gunshots more like “booms” than “cracks”. This low frequency bias was present all through the movie, in dialogue and sound effects, especially in the interior shots, which gave the scenes a closed in intense quality.

Thanks for posting this. Open Range was one of the best Westerns. I also enjoyed Lonesome Dove and Return to Lonesome Dove. I watch everytime i have a chance. Great acting. Beautiful scenery.
