Why Do Some Star Wars Fans Want the Han Solo Movie to Flop?
Vulture ^ | February 9, 2018 | Chris Lee

Since the early ’80s, Star Wars fans have ranked among pop culture’s most ardent, voluble, and, in all the most classical modes of the term, geeky movie devotees. They recite chapter and verse of the stilted dialogue; they inveigh against the very existence of Ewoks with an irrational rage; they nod in solemn agreement that Han — not Greedo — shot first; they name their children Anakin and Leia and even “Arturito” (as R2D2 is known in several Latin American countries).

But increasingly, Star Wars fans are also known to rain down righteous scorn whenever confronted by a perceived affront to their cherished IP. To wit: the recent backlash against The Last Jedi for being too “jokey,” for Luke Skywalker being insufficiently Obi-Wan Kenobi-ish, and for straying too far from the franchise’s established tone, even while the film received no small number of critical raves. The upshot: The Last Jedi got the lowest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of any movie in the series and, taking in $1.3 billion in global box-office receipts, came up about $200 million short of financial analysts’ predictions.

The Solo movie is Disney trying to bleed blood out of a stone. The best Disney Star Wars is the most original: Rogue One.

Concur. The rest have been variations on the original theme. Rogue One was far superior in story and content.

Because it's:

Image result for endless trash gif

Seriously though, because it's a story no one asked for. How Han Solo bought his boots at the Space Store isn't nearly as interesting as what happened in the original trilogy.

Movie makers, do new things, please!

Star Wars is not watchable. It is preachy, progressive and predictable. It is very stale. Perhaps they can spice it up. Say contact with Star Trek vessels. The fact is that despite lame plots and geriatric recycled characters, Disney knows that given its large vapid audience, they can produce almost any “Star Wars” movie and make money.

Even Mark Hamill said that the writers betrayed the character of Luke Skywalker.

And Greedo shooting first was revisionist nonesense.

I am still a big fan of the Original Trilogy. The prequels that Lucas did were worthless IMO. That's because I am not interested in seeing the beginning of a story when I've already seen the middle and the end. Prequels are among the least interesting type of movie to me. I will probably skip the Han solo movie but I wish them no ill will. Of the Disney films, I only saw The Force Awakens which I did not care for. Maybe I should check out Rogue One.

And Han did not shoot "first". Han was the only one who shot at all. Greedo just sat there and died.

Maybe because the lead actor is not a very good actor? Just a thought.

But Han knew what Jabba would do to him if Greedo captured him.

Ron Howard does good films...if the movie succeeds, it will be because Ron Howard was able to give some life back to the film. Ron Howard was in his later 20’s during the ‘70’s and knew the directors of that era well. He did a powerful movie called “Backdraft” as his first major smash. I almost wish that he could have been chosen to do the “Force Awakens”!

Someone pointing a gun at me and saying “I’m going to enjoy this...” I’d shoot first if I got the chance!

Say contact with Star Trek vessels.

Too obvious, make it the Lorne Green incarnation of Battlestar Galactica and throw in Julie from Lost in Space with the TV version of Logan's Run.

Saw Terminator Genesis on TV.

Didn’t recognize the little GOT dragon girl at first. She looks to be about four eleven.

‘Why do we need a prequel movie about Han Solo?’

Because he's the only character they haven't completely messed up yet? He's also the one character nearly everyone likes.

Boys rarely pretended to be Luke Skywalker. They pretended to be Darth Vader or Han Solo. Little girls didn't want to marry Luke, they wanted Han, Force or no Force.

How else can you make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs?

***He did a powerful movie called “Backdraft” as his first major smash. ***

SAY WHAT! Don’t you remember that smash hit from the 1970s EAT MY DUST! in which lots of autos are destroyed? It was so appealing to the locals that the cars full of rednecks and Okies was lined up for a mile or so waiting to get into the drive-in theater on 11th st in Tulsa to see it!
We finally had to find a back way home, by way of the Apache St drive-in showing skin flicks, as the traffic was so thick on 11th.

Because there are too many Star Wars movies and Harrison Ford is Han Solo.

Of course there was also “Splash” and “Cocoon” in the middle 80’s which were well received comedies(and big box office hits) for Howard. I always felt that Backdraft was a great leap forward for Howard; the one movie that cemented his status as a director who could do both comedy and drama well!
