Perhaps because the stuff is not 100% effective or magical about 100% of every aspect and part of a person's body?

They probably think it’s better to look “awful” on this side of the grass, than to look “normal” on the other side of the grass. Kinda like zombie-ism, IMHO.

Agree! But many have defied the odds and are living well past the average. Perhaps their hideous looks are the visages of evil.
One of the things I observed during the campaign, was that Hillary would at times look great..... but then she’d look awful.... then we wouldn’t see her for long stretches of time.
