A growing scandal associated with a former Chicago police tactical team accused of shaking down drug dealers and framing south side residents now includes scrutiny of at least 15 active Chicago police officers.
NBC 5 Investigates has learned the 15 officers are now assigned to desk duty, in a case which has already seen the convictions of 20 individuals overturned.
Last November, on a single day, Cook County prosecutors threw out the convictions of over a dozen men who had been arrested by Sgt. Ronald Watts and his team at the former Ida B. Wells housing project. All contended they were framed, and prosecutors did not disagree. In good conscience we could not let these convictions stand, Mark Rotert, the chief of the States Attorneys Conviction Integrity Unit said that day. In these cases we concluded, unfortunately, that police were not being truthful, and we couldnt have confidence in the integrity of their testimony.

All dirty cops doing the same exact things...
Lots of bad apples these days, Im beginning to wonder if its the apple trees we need to be looking at.
These cops thought The Shield was a how-to show.
I do not think being a whistle blower is a requirement to get hired... in fact I think people are profiled for the exact opposite. Hiring minorities has all to do with buying someone’s silence because their holding a job is not by compertence
The list of $hit hole RAT-run cities, with their $hit cops is growing day by day!
One thread here says that in NY State it’s not illegal for cops to have “consentual sex” while on-duty. So in reality, cops can now legally rape citizen females. Just where did the wheels of human decency come off in this country?
According to the Buzzfeed article which that thread is based upon, it is lawful for police to have sex with a detainee in 35 states.
So, more a perk or fringe benefit than anything else.
So you joined FR JUST to bash cops.
Get a life.
.
It came to a head when Mrs. Madeline Murray (now deceased) helped our elected remove prayer from school, then it removed bibles from the workplace and it ballooned and now we are living the results. Profanity is heard among school children and adults, in public. We experience bad manners among many.
Explain me this...
How is posting news articles about crimes committed by cops bashing them?
You sound like a Democrat defending their position to keep the FISA memos classified...
“How is posting news articles about crimes committed by cops bashing them?”
Because ONLY posting negative things about ANY group is bashing them———and that seems to be your agenda here on FR.
.
Hardly... I believe youre just upset that police crimes are being talked about and brought into the public eye.
I know several people such as you and they all have something in common, they are all cops
Just one more reason that demonRATS don't want to solve the rampant crime problem in Chi-town, they see it as a business opportunity, not a murder rate problem.
If 6-700 blacks, browns {and a few unlucky honkys} get murdered and 3-4,000 get shot, well...it's just the collateral damage that happens when you have a thriving pharmaceutical business that helps support the industrious police department.
NBC shows unpatriotic disrespect for our courageous law enforcement officers /s
“I know several people such as you and they all have something in common, they are all cops”

Really?
Try again.
I was never a cop,and never wanted to be one.
.
That's sexist and xenophobic. Should say "Cops can now legally rape gender unspecified persons".
None fired?
Gov’t job pays well plus perks of stealing.
I took a look at your posting history. You signed up in August 2017, and apparently, have already established a posting ‘hobby horse’, which in your case, is negative stories about cops.
Enjoy your brief stay at Free Republic. You won’t last.
Why do so many here advocate tactics routinely employed at places like democratic underground?
It seems yall are all about rooting out government corruption, unless it happens to be a criminal cop. Then you want that silenced, why?
Government corruption is government corruption. It dont matter if its a criminal politician or a criminal cop.
It's not good style to be single-mindedly fixated on only one pet cause—and to solely harp on that.
If that's what you've been doing, then you might want to broaden your horizons a bit, if only to dispel the notion that you're here for only one reason.
Having said that, stories about cops doing the right thing just don't seem to be as newsworthy, and while the BLM crowd and their ilk are of course completely wrong about police brutality being primarily targeted against Blacks, the fact remains that we do have a massive problem in this country with abuse of police power—whether it be "bad shoots", planting evidence, perjuring themselves to protect other cops, or just a tendency to show excessive hostility and abusiveness towards the general citizenry.
So I don't think you're in danger of being zotted unless you're engaging in some kind of behavior which I haven't witnessed yet.
Anyone who denies that there is a problem with the police in this country is completely naive and misguided, IMHO. The fact that most officers are good people and good at their job doesn't mean that the bad ones should ever be allowed to get away with what they are currently getting away with.
There needs to be massive reform with respect to police accountability. I've seen simply too many instances of police getting away with things which shouldn't happen in America. Being for "law and order" in a free society must include strict limits on abuse of power by the police. As things currently stand, the pendulum has swung far too far away from the notion of accountability.
And you're absolutely right about government corruption, and how it's reflected in what police are able to get away with.
Having said that, there's never any excuse for resorting to broad-brushing of the police because of the actions of the bad ones. But there are more than a few bad ones...
