San Diego Girl Scout Sells Over 300 Boxes of Cookies in 6 Hours Outside Marijuana Shop

The legalization of California’s marijuana industry and start of Girl Scout cookie sales have created an opportune moment for at least one San Diego girl.

A photo posted on Instagram by San Diego marijuana dispensary Urbn Leaf showed a Girl Scout with an armful of cookies in front of a Mission Bay storefront.

“Get some Girl Scout Cookies with your GSC today until 4 p.m.! Have a friend that wants to #tagalong? Bring them with – shopping is more fun with friends anyways,” the company wrote. “GSC” refers to a product flavored like Girl Scout Cookies.

The scout’s father told television station KGTV in San Diego that his daughter has sold more than 300 boxes in a total of about 6 hours.

Girl Scouts San Diego says booth sales do not start for another week, but that scouts are allowed to sell from wagons as long as they have a parent or guardian present.

“So if that’s what they say they were doing… then they were right within the rules,” said Alison Bushan, of Girl Scouts San Diego.

Bushan said since the scout set up on a wagon and was off the property, the scout was operating within the organization’s rules. Had a booth been set up in front of the business, then a potential problem could occur. The controversial move of Girl Scout cookie sales at dispensaries has come with changing times around the U.S.

Gave up on buying those overpriced cookies sometime back. Now personal economic circumstances would prevent buying them anyway.

Pretty clever.

I remember when I was a kid, I wasn’t in Girls Scouts (my family was too poor) but my two best friends who were sisters a year apart were and I went with them one Saturday going door to door selling GS cookies. This was probably around 1971 or 1972 and Norita and I were in the 4th grade and Norita's sister Kim was in the 5th grade.

We went to the door of a house and while going up the sidewalk, could hear very loud rock music that today I recognize as probably having been Led Zeppelin.

We knocked on the door and some long haired guy with blurry eyes answered. As he opened the door, we saw how smoky the living room was inside and caught a whiff of something unfamiliar to us, musty, skunky but sort of figured out what it was. At first he said no, but then someone else came to the door because he heard the word “cookies”.

We sold well over a dozen boxes to the stoners in that house. They even asked if we could come back the next day with more.

Now days it's mostly the parents who sell them at work. They also use emails and on-line ordering or a troop may ask permission to set up outside of a grocery store. And today you would likely get arrested if you let your child go door to door unaccompanied by an adult, or even with one.

I thought people bought pot to help them with chemo. Sugar feeds cancer. This GS cookie thing is going to have a deleterious effect on cancer patients, not to mention what smoking is doing to their lungs. Lol
