A New York high school has canceled a production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” after a student activist group complained about a white student being cast in a lead role.
Members of Ithaca High School’s Students United Ithaca — all five of them — got together and wrote up a letter and list of demands after the role of Esmeralda went to a Caucasian peer.
“It shows you that theater wasn’t made for you,” said Maddi Carroll, a member of the Students United group who is African-American. “And it shows you that, if you can’t get the parts that are written for you, what parts are you going to get?”
Students United’s letter conceded that the student cast as Esmeralda “is a stellar actor, singer, and dancer” and that any production would be “lucky to have her.”
However, it added: “Our concern is not with her, but with the fact that in terms of demographics, she is the wrong choice for this role.”
The group’s demands, listed on its Facebook page, included a cessation of play rehearsals, a stoppage of hiring (production) people who have not “changed their actions” following complaints from “parents of color” and “social justice activists,” and an end to the “racist and openly stated policy of ‘color blind’ casting.”

OTOH...Broadway went RACIST PC decades ago and though I LOVED the Musical about Will Rodgers, it drove me NUTS that one of the chorus girls, who in one big scene, plays one of Roger's sister.
And then their is the stupid, disgusting, HAMILTON, where ALL of the characters, representing WHITES, except for King George III, are anything and everything EXCEPT white!
This one is easy. Agree to the students demands, but change the play from the Disney version to the original one.

I used to know a guy who lost a slot on a large and prestigious symphony orchestra to a “musician of color.”
The audition process was supposed to be completely blind, not just color blind. The musician auditioned behind a screen where the judges could not even see him.
His quality of play was better than the other guy, but he wasn’t diverse enough.

NYC School Cancels Father-Daughter Dance to Comply With New Gender Guidelines
The proper response by Administrators to the letter from Students United Ithaca should have been;
"We thank you for your letter and thank you for raising these concerns. But as you must know your group is only a handful of people who attend this school.
And thus, please feel free to get 51% of the students who attend this school to agree with you and sign a petition to that effect and THEN we will entertain a discussion of your "demands". Until then, the musical production will proceed as planned.
