You will have to look into whether your local library system participates, but there is quite a bit of content.

Many local libraries also have a vast selection of DVDs and BluRay Movies you can check out for several days for free.

If you’re a sports junkie, Playstation Vue Core package with Sports Extra costs $55/mo and gives you almost everything you can ask for. I run it through my Roku but you can obviously also run it through a Sony Playstation.

I will second PS Vue. I have the $45 tier running through Apple TV although it works on many other devices. I'm a sports fan and we get the NFL and MLB Network and all the locals in my market except NBC. Also has DVR functionality which seems to be lacking on some (but not all) of the other services.

We have Amazon Prime with Acorn added and Netflix. We have a Firestick with Kodi but have used it only twice in a year. It’s not user friendly enough for us. My husband had Hulu but cancelled it. We feel like we get enough content between Amazon and Netflix.

I saw a lot of people recommend DirecTV Now, so I decided to give it a shot.

I had to run to Walmart to upgrade my Roku streaming stick to the 3800RW, because the stick I had was too old to be compatible with DirecTV Now.

So far, I like it MUCH better that Hulu with TV.
The guide is so more more familiar and intuitive. The current show stays playing in the background as you search through the guide. The channel selection is great for the price.

So, so far, I’ve tried three different services. I rank them, by my personal preference, as such:
*DirecTV Now
*Sling
*Hulu with TV

I tested out Direct TV NOW and Roku, but the buffering was too constant on NOW and Roku just required too many steps. And my wife really wanted a box, just a familiarity thing, I guess, so I took at chance on Direct TV satellite —

— and it’s been great, not a single buffer or cut-off, and with the box the wife can do her binge shows at will w/ easy access.

While I don’t like paying for all the crap I don’t watch, if I had to chase down the subscriptions to the channels we do watch it’d all be far more expensive than the DirectTV package.

Everyone told me to stay away from DirectTV because of weather issues, but we’ve been through wind and rain and so far no issues a month in to it.

For a while, I used my country library’s eBook program reading for free. The crazy thing was, I could only ‘check out’ a few books at once, and had a limited time to read them before they expired. Given that these were just bits residing on my hard drive, it passes me by why they are so anal about it.

I was reading old ROKU posts and I ran into your comment about library e-books. I had the same problem.

You can check out hardback books for a month; but, e-books for half that. Somehow I got caught with 2-half read books (and a big line for renewal) and I got so disgusted I stopped reading for awhile, lol.

Checked out Direct TV Now and PlayStation Vue. Went with PlayStation. Amazon fire stick, have Amazon Prime, Netflix which I will probably give the heave ho. Upgraded my WiFi. Got an HD antenna I get over 30 free channels on it. Tomorrow my Direct TV goes away. Good luck.

I have an antenna for basic stuff it’s ok I don’t watch much TV anyway.

I use Amazon prime for streaming it’s ok. I also like to stream You Tube stuff.

I haven’t cut the cord, I use one of the major players for internet. How can people “stream” but claim they have cut the cord? Where do these people get the ability to stream? What am I missing here?

You can’t. You are still stuck with someone for Internet unless you go off the grid and only watch free TV. Something I almost want to do. Get rid of the computer and smart phone and go back to a flip phone and be done with it. I would read more and be pretty happy.
