I know there are a lot of computer geeks in Freeperland. What malware protection is best, in your opinion.
Ive been running malwarebytes for years its been running great. I also downloaded spybot search and destroy(its free) another good little program

Is spybot an easy program to use and does it interfere with windows defender? I run malwarebytes, free version and windows defender.

If you are on Windows (any version) the best protection against malware is to permanently disconnect your PC from the internet.
I’m with you on Malwarebytes. I have Pro and it works like a charm. Backup to keep my machine bug and crap free is CCleaner and Norton Security.
Works in the background and give me piece of mind.
If you download stuff from places like Filehippo watch when you install it , some of these sites add a ton crap ,DO NOT KEEP CLICKING OK

I use malwarebytes pro and Avast free and superantispyware as backup protection. Has worked for me for many years across multi platforms. I was fortunate to purchase a lifetime license for malwarebytes back when it first came out.
Malwarebytes free but sometimes TDSSKILLER (kaspersky’s free rootkit removal app) tops it by a mile. I used to work for a malware removal team and there are countless apps that can do the trick.
Linux, absolutely. It fixed all my Windows problems.
I second the recommendation of Linux. I only surf the net with it, have been using it for over a decade, and have never had an antivirus or antimalware product running on it.
On Win10 machines, I just use the included Microsoft software, with monthly sweeps done with Malwarebytes. For Win7, I usually an running Avast! Free, then also sweep monthly with Malwarebytes. Never really had a problem that wasn’t headed off with these.
I’ve also heard good things about Webroot, which I may look into, as Avast! is starting to turn into “bloat-ware”, like AVG did back in the day.
Best ways to avoid viruses and malware are:
1. Stay away from porn sites, gambling sites, etc.
2. Don’t open any attachments from anyone you don’t know and/or weren’t expecting. Then, for folks you do know, upload and scan them on the (free) “Jotti’s Malware Scan” site;
3. Don’t click on links unless you’re sure they’re taking you to a legitimate site. For example, if you hover the mouse icon over a link, you should show the REAL site/domain/IP it is taking you to, not the text link you see on the screen. Many phishing attempts that try to get you to give up your personal information LOOK like legitimate links, but take you to bad sites.
4. If you get an email purporting to be from a reputable site (Google, for example), telling you your email or account has been compromised and you have to log in now to fix it, DO NOT click on any links in that email. Instead, go to the company’s site yourself by typing in the URL or clicking your own usual bookmark to log in and check things out. If in doubt, contact them directly via phone or web-chat - but NEVER via the links or numbers in the suspect email.
Malwarebytes is loved by all, but not as a standalone. I would pair it with Kaspersky or Bitdefender, or maybe Windows Defender if you don’t want to bother with subscription.
Yeah its super easy to use..this is the one that I use version 2.4 the one that is currently available I dont care for it much doesnt work good with windows 10 at least it doesnt work with mine but 2.4 runs smooth..just download the free updates and do a scan

Plus Keep Windows flavors contained in a Virtual Machines on Virtual Box where you can make a clone and revert to that within a couple of minutes without having to spend hours reloading all the S/W and updates.
Easy-peazy as it turns out.
The best malware protection would be not to have a computer at all. You can’t get malware on an abacus.
