BEIJING: Beijing said on Saturday (Jan 20) it had dispatched a warship to drive away a US missile destroyer which had "violated" its sovereignty by sailing close to a shoal in the disputed South China Sea.
The USS Hopper sailed within 12 nautical miles of Huangyan Island on the night of Jan 17 without alerting Beijing, the foreign ministry said, referring to the shoal by its Chinese name.

just pentagon being rouge again. must be budget time, typical bureaucrats
That’s 9k. We just prohibit a few of their Wal-Mart supply ships from coming to our ports.
A warship violated your sovereignty? That sounds painful. Try putting some ice on it.
Things seem to be getting risky, in the relationship to China. There are numerous small clashes, and a lot of rhetoric.
Go to Google Maps and enter “Scarborough Shoal”. That’s what they’re upset about.
Message to China:
Consider it a favor that a US Warship would grace your trash compacted sh*thole islands.
These are the disputed islands that China has illegally claimed and built artificial “shoals” on.
Nobody recognizes these as Chinese, but China.
Not one of your best, Voochie:
1. It's "rogue" not "rouge" unless you meant the French word for "red".
2. It's called a "Freedom of the Seas" move, when we send a warship to challenge a false claim of sovereignty. China doesn't own those waters and we're using our armed forces to show that we don't accept their claims.
Would you rather that we just stay home and let the Chinese take over?
Morning Joe has a shoal on the side? Does Mika know about this?
My thoughts too - seemed to make China part of the “Me too” group claiming sexual abuse....
The Huangyan Island are disputed, China........if the Huangyan Island were actually your ‘sovereign’ territory, which they are not given the Philippines claims them, as well, then perhaps there would be a valid ‘violated’ claim to be made. Thus, no violation occurred, China, deal with it.
They are afraid our ship will run into the island and tip it over.
More of their man-made islands?
Maybe so, but China understands the REAL rules, namely single most important one that you learned back in the playground:
Fists win more arguments than words EVER will.
China is merely taking a page from Turkey, who has ‘recognised’ the so-called ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ since ‘74.
Over the long term, it has worked.
Same thing for the Palestinians declaring Israel an “Illegitimate, apartheid state”.
Over the long term, that has ALSO worked. Most of the left wing, and the media and ‘progressives’ that support them have quite eagerly gotten with the pogrom.
Small point: Navy ships’ names are proper names. Saying “the USS Hopper” is like saying “The Pabianice.” Navy ships are called “USS Hopper.” No “The.”
