A Kentucky grandfather was reduced to tears on his 81st birthday last weekend when his grandson presented him with a newly restored 1957 Chevy Bel Air that had been collecting dust in a garage.

Cameron Dedman wanted to surprise his grandfather and "do it right," so he said he saved money, sold his own car and worked much of last year restoring the classic.

My father had the 57 Chevy Bel Aire 4-door hard top. It was a light green body with white top.

Yeah, what a shame the kid did not take your tastes into consideration when he did something as great as this for the Grandfather he obviously loves.

Yeah the color really makes the whole thing a waste of time, doesn’t it?

When I was 17, my father bought a new ‘56 four door belaire sedan. I pleaded for a hardtop, but he wouldn’t relent. Loved that car.

I really liked that pearl color. Did you ever see a 2dr post sedan in pearl and white. I don’t think I did.

My 57 was a convertible and I bought it around 1967. Top was shot so it got a new white top. Soon it got a 327 motor. I think I sold it for less than a grand.

Well, he didn’t “restore” it. He repaired it. then customized it.

If it’s his grandpa’s cup of tea, that’s all that really matters.

I would never have a chosen a four door to do this to, but that does not detract from my appreciation for the act of love represented in this story.

But you can't even admit that the kid did a great thing for his Grandfather.

That is a sad reflection upon you Anton. Try to have a good day.

Very cool.

My dad bought a 1941 Chevrolet when he returned from the war. Us kids have a photograph of him proudly standing next to his “new” car.

My brother came across the exact same model car a few years ago and did a full-on restoration - even the same color and Dad’s, and then presented it to him before he passed.

I now have side~by~side shots of him in 1946 and again in 2012 standing next to his pride and joy.

The car looks good but I’m more impressed with grandpa’s physique at 81 years old. The old boy looks as solid as his car.
