From Sid Vicious to Winston Churchill.
That’s a hell of a range.
We have the DVD on pre-order from Amazon; saw the movie. Absolutely brilliant.
I’ve seen it. Oldman is excellent. The movie as a whole is okay. I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse.
I have always been fascinated by Churchill and have read quite a bit about him. Overall, I thought this movie was a very good portrayal of the defining moment of an extraordinary life. The vast majority of the elite in England was firmly against Churchill wanting to fight and they were very close to surrender. Most British historians will admit that the powerful in the country were only concerned with remaining powerful and wealthy with little thought of the British people.
I believe this to be the main reason Hitler did not attempt to invade England in the early days - he thought they would surrender.
One man stood in the way - Winston, the portrait of resolute conviction. He was a horrid military tactician, but he was certainly the right man at the right time for all of us.
My husband and I loved the movie!....outstanding!
I wouldn’t have given Oldman a chance of pulling that off. I’m not sure he has the voice down, but he sure had the look down.
This will be an interesting movie.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Saw the movie weekend before last. I enjoyed it, but I would not call it great. I am a big Churchill fan.
I saw the movie. IMHO, it was ok - not terribly entertaining. 3 stars.
bump
Oldman spoke about the amount of cigars he had to smoke making the film. $30,000 was spent for the cigars. Oldman felt like he was getting nicotine poisoning. He sacrificed much to do the film. I hope he gets the Oscar.
