Police say a father stabbed his familys dog to death after it started mauling his one-year-old daughter.

Of course.
“when the family pit-bull terrier attacked her, biting her in the face causing major trauma.”
“Police said the family had the dog for five years and it had no known history of aggression.”
I don’t know about that, but what I do know is it’s not this breed, it’s how they’re raised, etc. etc. Nothing to see here. Move along.
Dogs sometimes resent or are jealous of the entrance of a newcomer into the family (as with a new baby); and instead of protecting the baby, will attack it.
Dogs have to be socialized to accept the newcomer as part of the “family”, and then it will protect the newcomer as one of its own.
Without even looking, I knew it would be the Dog of Peace®.
Wow. Yet another mere coincidence
“The father tried to pull the dog off but couldnt.”
That’s usually the case with pitbulls; and why they are so dangerous.
There are no more killer Yorkies or Maltese than there ever were, if that’s what you’re wondering.
And if that socialization doesn’t quite work, having the dog be some variation of pitbull obviously can be deadly.
Yesterday there was a post about an experiment in which two monkeys were treated differently in response to completing a task (one was given cucumber, and the other grapes). The monkey who was given cucumber for the same task got very upset. The researcher who was describing this experiment says it happens in all the species they’ve tested.
The point? I wonder if differential treatment of a child is perceived in some manner by some dogs similar to the reaction in the above experiment. Doesn’t matter, and I pray this child is safe and recovers without scars or injuries, but I wonder if sometimes we are not thinking enough about what putting a child and a dog (or other animal) together can trigger. Jealousy and similar emotions are not just a human thing, it seems.
gee, my guess was right (again!)...
must have been a golden retriever.
Falmouth isn’t really full of “Pitbull-Americans”. It’s a very high end town.
This is a story that must happen in Lowell MA nightly. But I couldn’t imagine a pitbull in Falmouth.
Of course MA as a whole is just a stinking dump of liberalism, gimme-gimmes and Dindu-nuffins.
Certainly something to think about.
I have never heard of any other breed not taking to a baby.
The smart monkey would hit the other monkey over the head with the cucumber and steal his grapes.
I’ve seen pit bulls that were the biggest babies in the world. No idea how to be certain that doesn’t change some day.
Well that's a shock.
I wonder how would the monkey know to want grapes instead of cucumber unless it had already tasted both to the point of having a favorite? what conditioning etc happened prior weeks or whole time from its birth to the experiment time.
