Was Daboll the guy Saban was yelling at during the Clemson game on the sidelines after some bone-headed play or other? Why doesn’t Saban just call the plays?

But the NFL stages a fairer playoff system where 37.5% of the top teams engage in a playoff every year. The NCAA (or CFP) engages in a playoff system where the top 3.5% engages in a playoff system, one that appears to shut off arbitrarily any school not in the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 or SEC.

I have been told that the World Series is misnamed because the teams in Japan and Italy aren't included. Your point is valid (less difference between different Div. I and teams and U.S. vs. Japan). Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough weeks in the year to have a proper college playoff (a la March Madness) because the games can only go once a week. In theory, these guys are supposed to be going to school.

I wouldn't mind going back to a system where there are a bunch of bowl games and people can argue forever about who #1 is, as the computers and journalists and four team playoff can't do the job.

I don’t think it’s that hard to do.

If there’s no reasonable path for the non Power-Five Conference team to make the playoffs, then maybe they shouldn’t be in the Top Division to begin with, otherwise there must be a path for a team outside of the big conferences to control their destiny.

I’ve come up with a system that should accomplish that.

Take the 5 Big conference winners, and then the two best al-large teams, with a stipulation that the best Non-Power Five Conference team automatically qualifies as one of the at-large teams, provided they are ranked in the Top 16, which should pretty much guarantee any Non-Power Five team that goes unbeaten, like UCF, gets a shot.

Seed the teams 1 through 7, the top two seeds get a first round bye.

Have the 6 and 7 seeds play each other, and then a week later the winner of that game plays the 3 seed, and the 4 and 5 seeds play.

Then everything is as it is now, New Years’ day is the semis and the NC game a week later.

So with my system in place it would have been.

1. Clemson
2. OU
3. Georgia
4.Alabama (Qualifies as the best At-Large Team)
5. Ohio State
6. USC
7 UCF (Qualifies as the Best Non-Power 5 Team, ranked at least 16th)

USC and UCF play for the right to play Georgia
Alabama and Ohio State face each other.

Then the winners of those two games play Clemson and OU in the semis.

I find your comment biased, considering that Auburn’s top two rivals are playing for the NC tonight...

No, the old system prior to the BCS was worse.

The current system has at least been agreed upon by all of the participants, who are making $$$ on this. Had not UCF and their conference agreed to the playoff, they would not even had the chance to play Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

LOL - really just supporting our new coach and wishing we were 13 - 0, with a realistic argument as to being best. As an aside, the rankings should not exist until mid season. Too hard for sleeper teams to rise, too slow for preseason leaders to drop after losing. GBR

Too bad the “best” team’s coach left to go to a “better” program...

Memphis losing to Iowa State in their Bowl Game, didn’t help UCF’s argument.

Will it be played in snow like a proper football match?

There will always be disappointments in the formula to calculate the FBS top 25 because there are so many moving parts, but I think the process, if not the formula, is a good one. Maybe the formula can be improved. There certainly are a lot of moving parts and from what I’ve seen, you get 25 people and they have 25 different ways they would do the FBS formula.

I wanted to try to accomplish as much as possible with the fewest number of games necessary to do it.

By automatically including the Conference Champions, it essentially expands it to be a 12-team Playoff, adding in the 2 At-Large teams.

I should specify that in effect, now the Power Five Conference Championship games ARE part of the playoffs. That’s where the 10 teams come from.

Now, the University of Central Florida (UCF) is now saying that it is the one true UNDISPUTED College Football National Champion, since this year it beat Auburn, the only team to defeat BOTH Georgia AND Alabama; AND that win capped a perfect, no-loss season.

God. You are an idiot.

When someone has no intelligent argument, go for the personal attack. The Democrats would be proud of you. It's their classic retort.

Heck with it. Let’s just scrap the regular season and make it into one big Playoff.

LOL, let’s just make it like the FA Cup, single elimination, last team standing is the Champion.
