I’ve got a huge video library on my Synology server. The server is backed up to two external drives.

Just yesterday, I started getting nervous about having only two backups and purchased a third 8TB WD external drive for $185 on Amazon.

Couldn’t agree more with your advice.

The Synology server performs SMART checks on the two drives, so I’m able to monitor their health. It has been a fantastic home media solution.

I want to get the DVD collection onto servers and store the physical copies offsite.

There are so many here. Amazing what a move yields.

Been using the Synology NAS for years and it is a perfect solution for 99% of home users, that other 1% have ‘issues’. RAID5 on two 6T drives. Peace of mind on not losing my files. Backup everything once a month to a portable that is kept off site.
