Jodie Foster slams superhero movies as cinematic equivalent of fracking

Superheroes may have met their greatest adversary — Jodie Foster.

The 55-year-old has claimed Comic book movies are ruining cinema.

In an interview with Radio Times Magazine, the actor and director slammed the likes of Marvel and DC production as the cinematic equivalent of fracking.

'Going to the movies has become like a theme park,' she said.

'Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking — you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth.'

She continued: 'It’s ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world.

The two-time Oscar winner, who directed the likes of Nell, The Beaver, The Brave One and Money Monster, insisted she didn't want to make '$200m movies about superheroes.'

However, she would consider a superhero protagonist if they had 'really complex psychology'.

Though it’s been a VERY long time, “Little Man Tate” impressed the heck out of me, and was an excellent movie.

JF both acted and directed the movie, and she was excellent at both jobs.

I had such a huge crush on her growing up (we’re the same age,) and still think that she’s a lovely woman. For the most part, she hasn’t said much politically over her career. There was the rambling “coming out” speech at the awards show that wasn’t a surprise to anyone. She was always very private about her personal life, and after that, she didn’t say much more.

For the most part, I happen to agree with her about most of today’s movies, and before seeing 3 movies in the last few months at the theaters (1 was free,) the last movie I saw in the theaters was “300,” about 11 years ago.

I do wish “artists” of all types would quit harping on politics. Jodi Foster has been circumspect, both in her politics and her personal life, for the most part. And she’s extremely talented, and I’ve enjoyed most of the movies I’ve seen her in.

Mark

Wasn’t she in one called “Little Darlings”, or something like that? The other actress was Kirie McNichols.. I remember rooting for McNichols and hating the other one (which I believe was Jodi ‘carpetmunch’ Foster)..

She forgets - cinema is entertainment and she wants it to be brainwashing...

Its just like fracking to her...

She doesn’t want anyone to do it

She’s a snob about it

She wants to virtue signal about it

She doesn’t give a rats ass about the people who work doing these things (making crappy popular movies and producing energy)

I remember that one. Saw it on tv when it came to HBO, I think. I remember thinking, meh, even back then.
