Diabetes is the reason I need to cut out processed foods etc. I take three Metformin a day and its like swallowing horse pills. My last A1C was 7.4.
My Dr suggests and my Husband insists that I basically follow this low carb/no processed foods diet. My goal is also to get off the medicine.
All diets are hard to keep up. It is a no-win situation. As soon as you get off the diet, all the old problems re-appear.
See post #34.
Mine went from 8.9 to 6.1 in about a year. I hated that Metformin too, last batch I ordered had a “rotten” smell and that’s when I told my doctor, no more. I watch (eliminate) my white foods (white bread, potatoes, rice) and fill up on salads, nuts, soups, eggs, yogurt, beans, meat, cheese. And I have whole dairies, none of the non-fat tasteless garbage. I actually LOVE eating like this, and don’t miss the scones and mashed potatoes.
I was taking 4 glyburide/metformin pills a day and was looking at Victoza because my A1C was too high. I got on the diet for several reasons including my Type II diabetes.
I started it seriously in July, down to one pill a day and hopefully get off entirely in the next six months. But I have made great progress. I also walk 2.5 miles a day and hope to get back to three soon.
