I haven’t seen it yet, but from what I have seen of the other movies in the new franchise, they are less space opera than poorly-written super-hero movies in space, with the same kind of tedious writing and increasingly over-the-top CGI battle scenes. As the Disney-style secular morality teachable moments start to emerge, I’ll be opting out.

The Kardashians, Galactic Edition.

Why do all the creatures across the galaxy have the same lifespan? Wouldn’t advanced civilizations have cure aging and live forever? Why would their lifespans match human lifespans?

Neither my wife nor I intend to see it. Too bad, but if I’m going to spend my money on a movie, it will be one that I enjoy on all levels. Otherwise, there’s fishing.

I remember standing in line at the movie theater to see the first Star Wars movie. The opening scene with the battle cruiser ship was awesome.

I have no interest in any star wars movie, after the last one that I saw. Mindless flash and bang.

They have 2 channels; both are running different cycles of self-made TV movies. They run (example) one channel 12-2, the other channel 1-3. If you get into it, you can watch both movies (sort of) at the same time and get a happy ending every hour. (Happy ending in the traditional sense of the phrase, not a Hollywood meaning.)

And at this point, there are enough movies in both cycles that the same movie doesn't run every day. It's a nice holiday pastime.

“Wired used to be a pretty good magazine.”

When :-)? I’ve found the magazine to be a mess over the years featuring half wits writing about things they clearly know nothing about.

It’s pretty much unreadable today, but it’s always seemed like a magazine geared towards people who want to look “tech savvy” reading it, but learn absolutely nothing from it.

Oh, they ARE picking on the Hallmark Christmas movies. I’ve seen several articles recently condemning them for their “Caucasian cheer.” Anything white is evil nowadays.

My problem with Rose isn’t that she’s asian, its that her character is insanely poorly written and one dimensional, and the actress portraying her has all the acting ability of the actor who played the adult Anakin in the Prequels...

There is no doubt they went out of there way, while watching the film to include every ethnicity they could come up with as much as possible somehow... but that’s not why I think the film was sub par at all.

How many of the bad guys are of color or female?

As best I can recall, zero...

The larger problem with this installment, and really, with all of the movies made since "Return of the Jedi," is that the storylines are poorly written rehashes of the first three films - this film had moments and characters (and almost word-for-word reused lines of dialog) from all three of the original trilogy's films. There was the escape from Hoth from "The Empire Strikes Back," there was the Emperor/Vader/Luke confrontation from "Return of the Jedi," a little of the AT-AT battle from the opening of "The Empire Strikes Back," and some of the sneaking around/infiltration of the Death Star from "Star Wars." All of it done pretty ham-handedly, to boot.

There is also no real character development, or anything interesting about the relationship between characters. Throw in the whole SJW angle (all "good" guys are either minority and/or female, and the "bad" guys are ALL white AND male), and I was left feeling like I had wasted both my money and my time. The special effects were outstanding though... but it hardly makes it a film worth seeing, IMHO.

Love feel-good movies where the dog doesn’t die and good people look forward to a good life.

LOL, husband said the same thing: If it isn’t great on all levels, he’s got things to do in the garage.

He hasn’t been to a movie in years and says he doesn’t miss it (IOW, there will ALWAYS be “things to do in the garage.”)
