Cinema Hands Out Refunds After Drunk Star Wars Fans Ruin Film

'They were drunk coming in, but they were absolutely annihilated by the end of the film'

A cinema in Llanelli has refunded Star Wars fans after a screening of the new film was ruined by drunk cinemagoers.

Following the eagerly-anticipated release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Thursday, fans had been flocking to see the latest instalment in the film franchise.

But excitement soon turned to despair at the Odeon in Llanelli as it became clear that two very drunk men had no intention of enjoying the film quietly.

One local woman has described how she realised very early on in the screening that the £42 she had spent on tickets for her and her family would be money wasted.

“They were drunk coming in, but they were absolutely annihilated by the end of the film," she said.

“I knew there would be trouble right from the start.

“We were sat in our seats, very excited to see the new film.

"I’d booked the tickets a month in advance and we had our Star Wars T-shirts on - it was a big deal to us.

“Then I noticed these two men come into the theatre. They had loads of cans with them.”

The woman, who did not wish to be named, explained that, despite repeated requests for them to be quiet, the two men carried on drinking, shouting and even swearing at the screen.

“The guy in front asked them to be quiet, and they would be for a couple of minutes, but then they would start up again - swearing at the screen! They were so drunk that I don’t think they had a clue what was going on.

“They kept coming in and out all the time as well, probably to use the toilet or to have a cigarette. At one point, one of them fell over all the empty lager cans that were lying on the floor.

"I can laugh about it now but at the time I was fuming.”

The film was being shown in the packed-out screen 4 of Llanelli’s Odeon cinema, which houses 78 people.

Many of those present were children, and they had to endure some rather coarse language as the film went on.

“I think that nobody wanted to antagonise the situation because there were so many kids there,” added the woman.

“There was one child sat near us who was celebrating his birthday, so his day was ruined.

“I certainly didn’t want to argue with two drunk blokes because I had my daughter with me.

"Perhaps if it had been a late-night screening more people would have stood up to them and told them where to go.

“As it was, nobody really wanted to say anything. I’ve never seen anything like that before. I’ve never seen anything like that at a football match, never mind at the cinema.

“They had so many cans, I didn’t know how they got them all in.”

Having been left outraged at the men’s behaviour, the other cinemagoers spoke to each other in the foyer upon leaving the screening to express their disappointment that the film had been ruined.

Over-hearing the discussions, a member of staff apologised for what had happened and quickly offered everyone - bar the two who had caused the disturbance - full refunds and free tickets for a future screening.

“The cinema were brilliant, fair play," added the woman.

"They even offered us the chance to go back in and watch the film again with free drinks.

"They gave us our money back and gave us free cinema tickets. I couldn’t fault them at all.”

The General Manager at Odeon cinema in Llanelli, Paul Gilbert, apologised to all those affected and praised his staff for dealing with the situation.

“We can confirm that a minor disturbance took place during a screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi at ODOEN Llanelli on Friday afternoon,” said Mr Gilbert.

“Our team responded to the situation and the problem was resolved. We have apologised to anyone affected by the disturbance, and following the screening offered full refunds and free passes to return to the cinema.

"We look forward to welcoming them back again soon.”

After all the disappointment, following months of anticipation for the new film, at least the actions of the staff at Odeon has given fans a new hope.

Did this happen in France? Not one single person stood up to them nor did the management do anything about it? Geez... why was everyone so paralyzed?

I’ve never - ever - seen a Star Wars movie. Now I know why.

I’ve never been drunk enough.

I stopped going to movies about 30 years ago because common curtesy had declined to where movies weren’t enjoyable due to people talking over the dialogue.

Haven’t missed them at all.

I thought blackout-level intoxication was the key to enjoying a Star Wars cartoo..., er, film.

Flame away, oh devotees of Lucas' fantasy flicks!

Should have kicked them out when they saw how drunk they were. Save trouble and cash.

Why did the management not kick them out? Why ruin it for dozens of people?

Just toss the drunks out. it’s not rocket science.

This strikes me as kinda funny in the “get a life dept.”, though:
“ and we had our Star Wars T-shirts on”.

That’s funny - I’ve only seen the first one 1977? and I was somewhat smashed. Not disruptive, just smashed. It was okay, but nothing I’d care a whole lot about.

Nobody had a stun gun? Those work great for drunks in the dark.

No amount of alcohol would have made Empire Strikes Back any better, and I understand this installment fills the shoes of Empire.

““We can confirm that a minor disturbance took place during a screening of Star Wars:”

That manager is a nerd. He should’ve gone full nerd with “there was a minor disturbance in the force and 2 Sith agents caused mayhem”

><

Me and two of my brothers were in a third full theater watching a movie and two rows back a guy and his wife kept talking. We asked him to pipe down and he would for a few minutes. Then he said “I’ll meet you in the back after the movie”. I volunteered my younger brother who is a big guy. They were quiet for the rest of the movie. After the movie, we went out, and there he was. That guy was about 6’7”, 280 - 300 lbs. . He just smiled and walked off. It was a relief. Lol

There are some low lifes who will be more than willing to give you a black eye or concussion just for asking them to quiet down in a dark theater. It’s even more vicious if you are of a different race, sex or social status than the offender. I don’t even blink my headlights any more if an approaching driver has his brights on. That’s how fragile some egos are today. That’s how it seems anyway.
