I would never have made it past the first response. I’d have smiled and said, “Have a nice day.” and, then, tried never to talk to that person unless I had to.
There was a liberal in my car club who would get indignant that we called it a Christmas party. She was so prickly that we all breathed a sigh of relief when she sold her Mustang to buy an environmentally sound Prius. A psychologist, she was perhaps the most unhappy person I have known who hasn’t yet killed themselves.
