Josh McCown knew right away.
He knew he was done. Definitely for the rest of Sundays game. Likely for the rest of this season. And possibly for his career, which has spanned more than 15 years and eight different teams.
Thats why, when McCown emerged from the trainers room in the bowels of Sports Authority Field at Mile High after breaking is left hand late in the third quarter of the Jets 23-0 loss to the Broncos, his eyes already were red from the burning of tears.

15 years is a helluva run in pro football.
It probably doesn’t seem that long when you just hit your prime in the 15th year.
Why are we supposed to boo hoo over a football player more than any other person????????
George Blanda....that was a helluva a run
For a terrible QB, he had a very long career. Then again... They can’t all be Tom Brady now, can they.
And Tom Brady cant be Aaron Rodgers.
Some guy who was still playing children’s games as an adult will now need to get a job for grown-ups.
Oh the tragedy.
He’s made over $30 million during his NFL career.
But Brady's won five times as many Super Bowls as Rogers....
On October 25, 1970, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, George Blanda came off the bench to replace injured QB Daryle Lamonica, threw three touchdown passes, and kicked a field goal to lead the Raiders to a 31-14 victory.
The next week in Kansas City, Blanda kicked a 48-yard field goal with just three seconds remaining to tie the Chiefs 17-17.
The following Sunday, Blanda again replaced an injured Lamonica, throwing a touchdown pass to tie Cleveland at 20 with 1:34 remaining. He then kicked a 52-yard field goal with three seconds left to earn a 23-20 Raiders win.
The magic continued the next week when Blanda threw a TD pass with 2:28 left to defeat Denver 24-19.
He completed his five-game miracle streak with a 16-yard field goal with just seven seconds left to defeat San Diego 20-17.
Blanda continued to impress over the course of the season and, at 43 years old, became the oldest quarterback to play in a championship game. Although the Raiders lost to the Baltimore Colts that day, Blanda accounted for all 17 points for the Sliver and Black.
Draft Baker Mayfield or Mason Rudolph, let McCown act as the 3rd QB and mentor, and Petty backs up, leaving the mistake by the Meadowlands Hackenberg on the practice squad. Start the draftee right away and live with the growing pains.
He’s a Christian athlete, too, not your typical NFL thug.
He played in the UFL (United Football League) for the Hartford Colonials in 2010.
No he can’t. Brady still has to play football games and then play in the Super Bowl.
I know that the NFL is in doghhouse right now and millionaire athletes are getting knocked for painting themselves as victims but....
There is something to be said for a man working his ass off to get to the highest levels of his profession. It is right to acknowledge and reward that kind of dedication and success.
If there was some system to determine who the very best accountant or teacher or electrician was, we should honor those people who proved themselves to be one of the best 32 or 64 in world at their craft. If there was some type of injury one could sustain that would force a teacher out of teaching or an accountant out of accounting, it would also be appropriate to acknowledge when that happened to one of the best in the world.
And since you werent paying attention add Joe Montana and Steve Young
Fran Tarkenton
And probably lots more
Bradys great, but Rodgers takes a team that barely beats the Browns and makes them great. If he had had the team surrounding Brady, who knows who could beat them.
