Finn is the most ridiculous character in Star Wars history. I won’t see it because of him. Even worse than Jar Jar, because JJ was originally written as a Sith villain playing the fool, but was changed for laughs with an eye to merchandising (both failed). Finn makes no sense whatsoever, and never shuts up. And Mary Sue? Groan.

“Oh, Fantastic ! You covered it all for me.”

That wouldn’t be too hard.

“So I’m being paranoid, basically.”

Maybe. I don’t know.

“And racist too I guess.”

Being ignorant about an actress being of Vietnamese extraction rather than Chinese doesn’t make you racist - since they’re the same race. They’re different nationalities, but the same race.

“But seriously - how is this hollywood nobody making headlines ?”

Two reasons: 1) Genuine interest (she’s in Star Wars for crying out loud), 2) It’s engineered. Hollywood PR people are all over this story to help boost Star Wars in its premier, promote “diversity”, make themselves feel better, etc. And I’m sure they are trying to look better to Asian audiences across the board as well since this woman is the first significant Asian character in the numbered series. They already included Jet Li and Wen Jiang in Rogue One.

IMDB's listing for her is a San Diego native, with about 20 roles mostly as extras. She's "Best known for" College Humor skits where the last one she did in 2016 was "Periods aren't that gross" and she plays a token Asian.

Isn't Tran typically a Vietnamese name?

Frankly, I have had it with Star Wars, and also frankly never have understood the mania and devotion it has inspired. But they'll keep making these movies as long as people keep paying to see them. The last one, The Force Awakens, was basically a remake of the original with better effects and a wet dream for devotees in the sense of oh it's the Millennium Falcon and Han Solo!. I bet Carrie Fisher is glad she is shed of the whole exercise and Harrison Ford had the sense to insist that his character be killed off.

“My parents are both refugees from Vietnam, and they spent their whole lives working towards a reality where my sisters and I would have choice,”

Hmmm dream, dream, sounds familiar.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Hey maybe her parents had a dream after all!

“It’s about this Queen that the people worship, she is seen as the savoir of the universe and of all humanity, and she is all about the women and children until this evil starship builder comes along and takes her power and all the children cry and then he takes away money from the federation of space warming and people scream how evil he is.”

So it’s about how evil Trump destroys “it’s for the women and children” queen Hillary.

I’ll be sure to miss this latest boring piece of propaganda like I did the previous ones.

This new breed of “actors” that basically roam around in front of a camera looking for their keys. Liv Tyler started that. Ever watch her act ? She’s just looking for her keys.

LOL. Liv Tyler has certainly fallen off the map.

I am trying to avoid all the hype and just go see the movie after the dust settles and form my own opinion. The Force Awakens had some moments but overall a disappointment. Rogue One was better. I hope to be entertained and minimize my expenditure to Disney. I have passes so that will keep things close to zero.

They already did that with the Original Trilogy (don’t forget, Leia and Mon Mothma were senators).

As far as this movie and this Tran lady, she definitely wouldn’t be pushing Chinese communism (besides, she’s Vietnamese, and her parents are refugees, it’s unlikely she’d support communism knowing what her parents had to deal with). Ironically, if she knew about how the Rebels are based on the same guys who, after “reuniting” Vietnam, turned it into a living hell, she’d probably be supporting the Empire or the First Order.

I’m reluctant to go see this movie even if I didn’t already have that boycott against them thanks to the 2017 remake of BATB and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. I already learned from The Force Awakens how this is probably going to be a retread of TESB (don’t get me started on Episode IX, which due to JJ Abrams being onboard will definitely retread ROTJ). Besides, other than a few Marvel Comics and Rogue One, Disney’s treatment of Star Wars has been complete trash (Star Wars Rebels was just... ugh, I’m sorry, but making the Empire into a bunch of doofuses is NOT going to endear many people to the heroes, as they seem to get a lot of lucky breaks).

I stopped being a fan of the Rebel Alliance after I learned they were based on the Vietcong, communists in other words, and that the Empire is America.

You want the Global Warmunist Harrison Ford back in this series? No thanks.

Not on the Chinese payroll. But still sounds like stunt casting to me, with the appropriate skin color and/or ethnicity used instead of celebrity.

My point exactly... And also whenever Senators think they can run a republic ( Rome.. USA.. etc. ) bad things happen.
