I just watched “The Great Race” a few days ago. Good Lord, Natalie Wood was HOT. Wow. Read her bio on Wiki — very interesting family history. Her mother pushed her very aggressively into films and moved the family to LA so she could be near the center of the movie universe. She quickly landed a child role. Her parents were Russian and she spoke Russian with an American accent. She got to put her Russian to use with one short line in “The Great Race.”

Now this is interesting...

Natalie Wood, born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko, July 20, 1938.
Kirk Douglas, born Issur Danielovitch, December 9, 1916.

Wood was born in San Francisco, to Russian and Ukrainian immigrant parents.
Douglas was born in Amsterdam, NY and his parents were Jewish immigrants from present-day Belarus.

What about Hedley Lamarr?

Nope. Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday is the greatest supporting actor role in movie history.

Not only should Kilmer get a back-ordered Oscar for this, he should freaking get the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Same here. For now, I’m bingeing on the Pacific War, most especially, the Battle of Midway. What an incredible story.

As Jim Deakins in Howard Hawks’ “The Big Sky.” Happy Birthday, sir.

He impressed me more in “Lust for Life” — the life of Vincent van Gogh.

That’s good to hear. Yes, the Battle of Midway was incredible.

If you would like to read a comprehensive, “big picture” history of the war, with emphasis on the Army generals of each Theater of War as the war progressed, I highly recommend “Marshall and His Generals” by Stephen R. Taaffe.

When you'd like something a little out of the box,
read Shattered Sword, " a new, definitive
account of the Battle of Midway, focusing
primarily (but by no means exclusively) on
the Japanese side of the battle. "

And another fantastic book ----
D DAY Through German Eyes - The Hidden Story of June 6th 1944

Your not kidding she was ultra hot, saw “The Great Race” in the hospital recovering from heart failure. Good thing I had received a pace maker. They had several of her movies on in the course of the day on TCM. Oh man!

"In Harm's Way" is the Kirk Douglas movie that I always go to ...

...unless I'm feeling in the mood for a little "Roadrunner/Wiley Coyote" fix with Kirk Douglas as Cactus Jack Slade in "The Villain".

I just watched “Lonely Are the Brave” again. Great movie.

That is his self-described favorite role, and it's mine as well...

I didn’t know that. Thanks.

He and Robert Mitchum are in the top 10 best in my book.

Nope. Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Doc Holliday is the greatest supporting actor role in movie history.
............................

To make that assessment means that you’ve seen every movie ever made. That’s just incredible.

...I’m guessing you didn’t even see Gunfight at OK Corral which is where Kirk Douglas defined the role of Doc Holliday.
I’d also guess that you’ve seen very few movies made before 1970. Val Kilmer did an over the top caricature of the role. But that’s every role that Val Kilmer plays. That’s no knock on him. He just has nowhere near the acting chops of someone like Kirk Douglas.
