He is just a few months older than my dad who lived past 90. He likewise enlisted in 41 and went from Private to Master Sgt in the US. Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. They made them tough back then.
But for a back issue that hit his mobility, he would have probably made 100.
Happy Birthday Kirk!!
Yeah, I’ve got to agree with you there!
A compilation of angry men in the movies of which Kirk is of course a prominent one. Language warning. The Anger Games

Paths of Glory was great, too.
He was memorable in Seven Days in May, Lust for Life and Cast a Giant Shadow. He made lots of good movies that I have in my collection.
He did more than enlist. He initially flunked the eye exam so did some eye exercises for a couple of months to improve his vision. Though he was injured in a ship board accident when they may have been in contact with a Japanese submarine, his medical discharge was due to a tropical amoeba he and some other crew members picked up in Panama enroute to the Pacific. He did his duty, and he did his best. All such men are heroes.
He appeared in a comedy skit on SNL back in the 70s when it was actually funny. They filled in Kirk’s chin dimple and during an exchange, another actor asked, “What happened to the dimple?”
“It’s done with makeup,” he replied...
He played a great coyote to Schwarzenegger’s roadrunner in the hilarious movie “The Villain.”
Rumor has it that he raped Natalie Wood, not in some movie but in real life, when she was very young but so far theres been no direct accusation. The story is that when the rapist dies, Lana Wood will name the perp.
The Final Copout.

It did feel like that, didn’t it?
Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch, December 9, 1916)
Great comedy, but Schwarzenegger was not a good actor at all in it. The old Handsome Stranger. Kirk Douglas was great.
Saved the republic in Seven Days in May. We could use him now.
“My favorite Kirk Douglas movie is the The Final Countdown.
Not a great movie but Im not a film buff.”

Yeah, not a “Spartacus” type classic, but it certainly is some good, fun watchin! 1980-ish aircraft carrier outside of Pearl Harbor is thrown back in time to December 7th, 1941:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Douglas. Your catching up to my Grandma, who’s going to be 109 this June.
Every time a celebrity dies I say well, theres another one my mother has outlived. Kirk has her by 2 years. Good for him. Happy a Birthday, Mr. Douglas.
Ppppp
“My favorite role of his was in In Harms Way”.
I agree. in Harm’s Way is an excellent and underrated movie.
