The No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes captured their first Big Ten championship since 2014 thanks to a 27-21 triumph over the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday night.  The win, which was buoyed by a slew of explosive plays from the Buckeyes' speedy skill position players, figures to incite tremendous debate among the College Football Playoff selection committee in advance of Sunday's final rankings reveal.

They look tough. Think if it’s Oklahoma/Clemson the over/under might be 100?

Alabama didn’t get beat, however, by more than 30 points by a team with five losses.

The polls will say differently.

Very little separates 1 thru 8, and Southern Cal is not that far out at 9. That’s the basic problem ... choosing that 4th team is entirely arbitrary.

In terms of politics and $$$ Not likely that the committee will leave out both USC and OSU. The 4 teams would all be within just a few hundred miles and not near any major city save Atlanta.

That was 2014 not 2011. In the 59-0 win, OSU shut down the 3 place finisher in the Heisman race. Melvin Gorder ran for 76 yards, his 2nd worst game of the season. In the Sugar Bowl, they shut down the 2nd place finisher, holding Amari Cooper to 71 yards receiving. In the National Championship game, they throttled Oregon 42-20 led by Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. All that with a new quarterback, Cardale Jones and a sophomore Ezeikel Elliot, who ran for 220, 230,and 246 in the three games.

Five-loss Iowa destroyed Ohio State 55-24. EOS.

The Big Ten was overrated this year.

You are misguided. Wisconsin and Ohio State U have always had a rough and tumble game. Neither has won by more than 7 points against the other the past 5 years. \It’s always a good game between the two.

The funny thing is Vegas guy was just on Fox Sports saying

Alabama is ranked 6 points better than everyone in the field
except
Ohio State. Vegas has Bama 3 over Ohio State.

Meaning the Vegas 1&2 is who the committee has to choose over.

I hope you are right gator. I root for Ohio State but honestly the Buckeyes and the BIG(10+4) conference do not need another embarrassing loss on the CFP stage.

Don't disagree with your point, but this statement is incorrect ...

Neither has won by more than 7 points against the other the past 5 years.

59-0 three years ago.

Either way it looks like Oklahoma vs. Georgia in the Rose Bowl. Not so much a forgone conclusion that Bama gets in. Most bowl projections websites are saying Ohio State. I hope that whoever does not get in will play USC in Fiesta Bowl but Bama wont travel out there if they can get an easy win versus Miami in the Orange Bowl.

How ‘bout them Buckeyes!!!!

With Fresno State losing tonight Bama only has two wins against ranked teams. Bucks have three with two against top ten teams.

Bucks won Big Ten while Bama sits at home losing their division. So the Bucks get SC in the Fiesta and Bama gets Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

Do you really believe this is the criteria they use when filling the top 4 spot? You don’t understand the politics of college football. They also look at the fan base and money - money talks, and OSU fans will go in droves to watch the team play. This brings MONEY to the cities where the game is played. And, OSU has a great reputation. That Iowa loss was a reall stinker though, but it seems that once a year during the season they don’t practice enough against a team they think is a sure win. I think this is why they got their butts handed to them They were looking ahead to higher-ranked teams. JMO, of course.

I know, I meant to include that win, but forgot. My bad! But, it’s usually a very close game within 7 points.

Frankly, if it were up to me I’d go back to the way it used to be. I think playoffs have killed off a lot of the charm that college football used to have.

The committee stuck an overrated Ohio State in the playoffs last year and they were destroyed by Clemson 31-0. If they should undeservedly be put in again this year, they’d again face Clemson and likely suffer the same fate.

Their 31 point loss to Iowa and loss to Oklahoma at home indicate they are no better than last year. Bama is clearly the stronger choice based on this year’s and last year’s results.

Agree with that, at least for the last 20 years. Before Barry Alvarez showed up in the early 90s, they were pretty bad for many years beforehand.
