You are correct in all of those respects.

Raise the standard deduction to $24,000 per individual, leave SALT deductions alone, end the estate tax, set corporate and pass-through at 25%, adjust other brackets as needed to make the math work, and make it all retroactive by one year.

Amen and amen.

LOL

Do you think just because you can’t deduct state and local income taxes anymore, the State and locality are going to cut your taxes?

Is’s YOU that will have to freaking do with less.

Never realized how many people on this forum are so easily fooled.

Trump isn’t the one writing this bill, its Goldman Sachs and the RNC, and that degenerate scumbag Paul Ryan.

If he signs a bill that raises taxes on the middle class, it’s all over for him.

They may be adding the elimination of the middle class tax deductions specifically as a poison pill, thinking that Trump is so desperate he will sign ANYTHING they put in front of him, and he will commit political suicide.

Cut the corporate tax rate to 20%, but leave our deductions ALONE. The 250-300 billion hit on revenue can be offset by spending cuts and increased receipts from accelerated corporate activity.

Correct. Even Senator Collins (in one of her few moments of clarity and thoughtfulness) has proposed just that. Instead of giving Facebook, Apple, and Google a tax cut from 35% to 20%, make it 35% to 25% and don't screw over millions of middle class families.

I am sure the corporations (who by the way get to keep their state, local, and property tax deductions in the bill) will survive.

Also, it has been a few posts, and no one has said that some states are "subsidizing" other states - because some in those states claim more in legitimate tax deductions.

Oh well, someone will say it soon.

Teacher says: every time a Freeper says "subsidize other states", Mnuchin's PR Firm earns its wings!

Might not be a good Bill but it is better than what we currently have - would hazard that many middle class sorts who get hurt are already over-leveraged as far as finances.

Like all things moving us in the right direction - w/o a phased approach and settling between phases, it would cause unforeseen problems. We got so addicted to the "breaks and bennies" that we lost sight of what is Constitutional and what is personally rewarding.

Irrespective, he states that the average Salt deduction is $12,281. They are jacking up the standard exemption to $24,000 and there aren’t going to be too many middle class taxpayers who would have a Salt deduction in excess of $24,000 so it will be moot. Plus they are reducing the tax rate for the middle class as well. When you add it all together there aren’t going to be very many middle class taxpayers who will pay more. Maybe none in fact. Almost everyone else will get a tax cut.

At this point the only tax bill I care about is one which will allow a big win for us next November.

We here all know what kind of bill that would be, but we aren’t going to get it with this Congress, so now let’s just get something that will give us a win next November and then finally Trumps Agenda can begin to be implemented.

FU Mitch MiConnell.

FU Paul Ryan.

I would go on with the FUs, but the list is very, very, long.

If Republicans abandon Trump because of a tax bill that barely affects them, then the country deserves Hillary.

Great post.. we middle class are getting taken to the cleaners while the poor get paid... and paid even more than ever. I like the simplification of the plan, just not the make America poor again details. Why do we always payer the highest percent of our income?

Yup.. it’s their dirty little plan to put the GOPe back in minority status. The turtle does not like being expected to work.

If GOP raises my taxes - as the current bill does - why should I support them?

I agree, Hillary appointing SUPREME COURT JUSTICES would be much, much, better for the country. Our children can go to hell for all we care!

Sorry, but the only reason they’re getting rid of SALT is to RAISE MORE MONEY, so by definition that means many people will be paying more taxes. They admit they need to raise money to limit the deficit effects of their business tax cuts. It’s called the Byrd rule

The GOP is stealing from my family under their current tax bill. No, I won’t support thieves. Democrat tax increases are expected. The lying GOP told us they’re different. Liars

So you call raising people’s taxes , to send more of their money to DC , “swamp draining”. I call it “swamp watering” - with my money!

How is it “better than what we’ve got” if it forces many people to send more of their hard earned money to the federal government? If it raises taxes on anyone, how is that an improvement? Raising taxes used to be for Democrats, not Republicans

I’ve looked at it. It’s imperfect, what a shock. The good news there are plenty of ways to take advantage of it.

Which I will do.

For me, the story of government has always been the same. Expecting it to do something for me is a waste of time.

I watch what it does, and react accordingly. I take what it gives and ameliorate what it tries to take away. The GOPe runs congress, deal with it. They’ve been there all along and I’ve done just fine, despite them.
