Ah, yes. KRLA. It was my station for years. I also liked KFWB. Then, in the later 60s “93 KHJ” came on the scene and got a lot of air time.

Although I liked the DJs better at KRLA, I would often switch to KFWB when KRLA was running ads or the DJ was talking too much. In those days, they would usually play a song and then an ad.

But in the early spring of 1965, I began tuning in to KHJ, which played a different kind of music. I would later find out that it was country-western, a genre with which I was unfamiliar. But one day, I tuned in right after they switched to Top 40 and was soon hooked.

Boss Radio KHJ promised "more music" and they delivered, often playing songs, one after another without a commercial break, for as long as 25 minutes. Pretty soon, KHJ dominated the Top 40 format in the Southland.
