Next week’s Iron Bowl looms as a massive game for the SEC West and, possibly, the College Football Playoff.
But here’s a reminder for Alabama and Auburn fans to not take the rivalry too seriously.
A man in Mobile, Alabama, shot another man on Monday after they were allegedly arguing over which of the two in-state rivals was superior. From Al.com:

For crying out loud, he only shot him once, and just winged him. Liberals make a big deal out of everything.
At least no trees were harmed....
He had “too much ‘Bama” in him.
What a stupid argument to get shot over. Obviously Alabama is ranked higher, therefore is the superior team.
However, I can’t stand Nick Saben’s guts so I hope Clemson wipes the floor with ‘Bama.

Actually an Auburn fan would just pay a player to do it. Cam Newton’s relatives would facilitate the transaction.
The truth is that despite the rivalry, many families in AL have kids from both schools.
We tailgated an Iron bowl and sat in a camp with parents from both sides. All were cheering for their team, and Auburn won, (War Eagle). But for the most part the stories of nut jobs are few and far between, but killing the tree at Toomer’s Corner was a bridge too far for me. That sucked as much as a shooting.
Wasn’t there an analysis done that the trees were dying anyway from all the toilet paper constantly draped over them after wins?
Yeah, I think he was a Delta Lambda Phi pledge, if you know what I mean...
Seriously, though, when I taught adults at Auburn U. we had a guy who worked at the State Docks down in Mobile who was a die hard, and I mean die hard Alabama fan.
He bitched and moaned at being at an Auburn campus almost every minute. This guy kept interrupting my lectures—by arguing with other students—until I had to tell him to knock it off. He was fuming. Needless to say, I was evaluated “poorly”.
Funny thing, too, as I was an Alabama fan working for AU. There were a few off us. We only said “War Eagle” on payday!
Now I wonder if this guy who shot the other guy was “that” student?
Ha, ha. You'll never know.
BTW, my dad retired from the state docks at Mobile.(He passed away in 1994)
I did not hear that, could be true, but the AL fan used a biocide that killed them despite all efforts to purge the stuff.
To paraphrase Ivanka, there should be a special place in hell for someone who would destroy a living thing what meant so much to so many students.
