Dostoevsky rightly identified Communists, Socialists, etc as damnable Gnostic irreligionists. Solzhenitsyn added clarity when he described them as Gnostic pagan Manichaean dualists. By this he meant they see themselves as Morally Pure,the 'Enliightened' (the ones who KNOW), hence the absolute force of good waging war against forces of absolute evil in pursuit of a world made perfect because cleansed of evil by the Morally Pure.
