Unusually high amount of EAM traffic today. Dedicated EAM observers say traffic volume is alarming.

I loved that show and his Cessna 310, one of the most beautiful twin-engine planes ever.

His snotty niece Penny, not so much.

I defer to your specific knowledge. The literature ((old) Monitoring Times, etc.) uses SKYKING messages and EAM’s interchangeably, but calls out FLASH messages. I find it interesting to listen to, but I have no need to know any more about it.

Anyway, FR will tell me what is in the news faster than the MSM.

Camp Red Cloud South Korea 1967. Operated under some rather strange circumstances I NOT a ham radio aficionado fully understood. It was an old MARS station that wasn’t authorized under that ticket anymore, but was able to operate low wattage locally, BUT our AR guy had a little Collins kicker down below the desk that apparently in conjunction with the old MARS antennae array allowed us Worldwide communications.

I assisted the amateur radio operator at the time during the Christmas phone patches so our guys could talk to their families. It was fun, and interesting. I’m amazed I can remember the call sign actually.

Trump says during a toast at a state dinner being held in his honor in Seoul Tuesday that, “we’re going to have an exciting day tomorrow for many reasons” that “people will find out.”

Look up Global Thunder.

That’s all this has been. Admittedly it’s been the most traffic I’ve ever heard in 40 years of monitoring the USAF frequencies, but 95% of it has been training messages during this exercise.

And “Skyking” is not an entity, it’s just a designation of the priority of the message. None of the EAMs I’ve heard the past 2 days has been designated “Skyking”.

The “Foxtrot Foxtrot” on these EAMs is NOT a priority designator, it’s just the current first 2 characters of the preamble. If you listen for a long time you will notice the preambles will all start with the same 2 characters for a day or so, then change for another couple of days. FF just came up this time. Means nothing. My own personal theory (wild guess) is the preamble tells the receivers which one time pad to use to decode the message. Currently they would be on FF pad. Tomorrow it might be EC, or ZL... just what ever pad was used to code the message.

Re: your last comment, I’d think some old style land line BBS (bulletin board system) nodes would do the trick too.

Curious IF HL9TY means anything to any Freeper anywhere.

Here is a reference to an operator who used HL9TY while in Korea.

We need to create a sticky file and fill it with SHTF info, so we can download and print the instructions if the internet goes dark.

I obtained my amauteur license because one day AT&T landlines and wireless and internet all went down for about 4 hours. I did not know if a nearby shared tower had been knocked over or what.
I was concerned that if I had chest pains, I could not call 911 (although I was assured that my phone would go to MAX power and another carrier would catch my call. Maybe.)

Having a legal 2 meter/70 cm mobile unit cured me of the “disconnected” phobia. I added HF because that was more interesting than the local conversations.

don't know if they still do, but Soviet firechains transmitted code 24/7/365 both RF and landlines even if it was gibberish for the exact reason you could never tell if something was going down by an increase in traffic...
