Since early in the last century, following a suggestion by President Theodore Roosevelt, boxing has been taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Last year, for the first time since female cadets were admitted in 1976, boxing classes became mandatory for cadets of both sexes.

I am not sexist. I would support ANY person of any gender if they are excellent, and if the standards are the same for all. The goal is to WIN the war, not to be politically correct.

Both of my boys boxed in junior high and into high school. They were the only kids they knew that ever had a bloody nose from a punch.

BUT did you notice, at the end of the fight. After the flight was called by TKO, that the Marine (male) tried to in good faith bump gloves, in good will and a good fight, but she REJECTED? She would not even acknowledge him?? As if HE did something wrong???

I don’t think it’s wrong for a man to “hit” a woman in self defense.
But to have our military train by having men punch women disgusts me profoundly. It is the worst thing to ask a man to do = attack a woman.
Men are properly guardians and defenders of women and children. What a grotesque perversion of a man’s calling.
At VMI in the ‘60s boxing was a requirement for all Rats (freshmen). You boxed others in your weight class - except a few smart asses who ended up in the ring with the instructors and were duly ‘instructed’.
Since women have been at VMI, I understand they box each other, not guys. I’m sure it will be the same at the Trade School.
Then, if we're fortunate enough to become actual adults, the issue of fighting like that loses its luster and it is generally relegated to the thugs/rednecks/those who opt to "go pro".....
