Vanity, my son.
no source. vanity | Kenny's father

Posted on 10/20/2017 7:39:04 PM PDT by wayoverontheright

Tomorrow the tarheels of UNC will play th Hokies of Va Tech.

My son died at the age of 43 in July of this year. He was a big North Carolina fan. For the last 12 years, or so, he and his circle of friends who were Hokie fans all, would travel from Lynchburg to Blacksburg for the game.... Including his wife, who loved him and misses him very much. I am so thankful for her, she was a Hokie fan and he was a Tarheel fan. This was the wayi it was. Sports fans, you understand this.

He left behind an 11 year old son. My tarheel boy and his Hokie friends would travel every other year from their home in Lynchburg Va to see the game. Tech would usually win, but he was always true to his Tarheels. And his friends, well, apparently, they understood. Win or lose. He proudly wore his Carolina blue, and endured, win or lose.

Every other year. In Blacksurg. Among his 20 or so friends who would attend the game, he was the only tarheel fan. He would wear his Carolina blue shirt and hat, and take his lumps. Or they would, as the case may be.

Tomorrow, his 20 some-odd Hokie fans will go to the Va Tech-Carolina game. They will ALL be wearing Carolina blue-hats and jerseys, in his honor. Hokie fans. All of them. Think about that. I am at a loss for words. So blessed was my son for having friends like these.

As his father, I cannot ever express the gratitude that I feel. It is so comforting that he had surrounded himself with friends like these.

Hokie fans, you are a class act. I will forever be in awe of you. And grateful.

Many count riches in precious metals, material wealth, and property. Your son was rich beyond measure: A good wife, admirable son, and many friends all of which loved and respected him. Many of us could only hope to be surround by love like that....and it continues even after July. Thanks for sharing this - well done Hokies. God Bless, wayoverontheright.

Brings tears to my eyes. Nothing like sports fans. Nothing like friendship.

I have a dear cousin new to heaven awfully excited about his Dodgers about now. I guess he’s got a better view than his season tickets.

You raised a good son. He left you with many good memories. May you find peace in knowing he lived life as a good and honorable man.

You can always measure a man by the quality of his friends.
He was raised properly. Good job.
