Veteran actress Laura Dern revealed Wednesday that she was sexually assaulted when she was 14-years-old.
Dern, now 50, appeared on The Ellen Show and explained that hearing other actresses at the Elle Women in Hollywood event speak out about abuse they’ve experienced helped her come to grips with a past she said she had “justified.”
“I woke up and I realized that in that space I talked about how I was one of the lucky ones because I was raised by actors who told me their stories and told me what to look out for, and I realized that I was I still justifying behavior,” said Dern, whose the daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd.
“And it was my mom who said, ‘No, no, no, Laura — that was sexual assault. That was harassment. That was assault. No, you were 14 then,'” the Jurassic Park star said.
The Big Little Lies actress applauded the industry-wide commission to tackle sexual harassment and “predators” that Lucasfilm president and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy suggested amid the swirling Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal.
Dern also praised the women who spoke out at the Elle event about the abuse they’ve endured in Hollywood and beyond.

This may get me a lot of piling on but if those Hollywood women would stop acting and dressing like whores then maybe men wouldn’t treat them like one. Has anyone seen the dress Rose McGowan wore to the VMA awards? She might as well have been naked. It’s easy to see why men would think she’s easy. There is such a thing as asking for it. I know getting back to more modest dressing isn’t going to stop all assaults but there’s so MANY sex assaults in Hollywood that I think we need to look at the larger picture. Even the women on Fox news really need to tone it down some.
So far, no Black actresses have come forward with sexual abuse stories. I guess all these Hollywood predators are racists who only like White meat.

I have a gut feeling that a large part of Hollywood is going to die with Weinstein. It already has begun, in a way; people are seeing the awfulness of the individuals behind the screen. The attacks on Trump have reinforced this.
Also, Weinstein will not go down without a fight. He’ll make sure to take down as many people as possible.
I found most of his films perverse in some way; over the past 30 years he seems to have represented the soul of current Hollywood.
