Greetings from Mo. We have had several days of internet service outage. Just now restored. My garlic came in this week, and I hope to get it planted next week sometime.

I am working on taxes this weekend. Hubby is laying tile in the bathroom, and hoping to have the toilet reinstalled tomorrow. He has nearly finished taking out the concrete patio where he needs to put the footing for the green house.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Been reading up on saving my geraniums through the winter for next year, by hanging them bare root in paper bags. Looks like tomorrow will include a trip to Trader Joe's, where I can get said paper bags, unlike most grocery stores.

Also making sure to keep stupid squirrels from digging up tender plants, as they are in an absolute frenzy this year to bury all their stupid acorns in my garden. We were just remarking today how this year, there seem to be twice as many squirrels as we've ever seen before. I actually staked a wire basket over 3 new baby hostas I got to keep the squirrels from digging them up. These are bold squirrels, which don't even move when you shoo them away, and will scamper within a couple feet of you, ignoring any verbal threats.

Got my garlic planted, mulched and covered with remay to keep the critters from digging it up. 36 feet of German Red and 36 feet of Chinese Early Red that matures a month earlier...

Do any potted palms do well inside a Care Facilty Home with indirect sunlight? The palm at my work area has fronds about five feet long. The plant has been withering. I’ve suggested to my boss the tree (actually a cluster of many plants jammed inside a big plastic pot) would be better off outside in the direct sun.

She thinks the direct sun would kill it. Really?
She has been told by the nurseryman that this palm tree
‘likes to be touched’. Okay, right. Sounds like Hippy-Talk to me, but maybe there is something to it.

I got kind of sick the last couple years so I lost my tiny little bit of gardening mojo.

All I have to do is look at at a plant and I kill it. I swear I can’t grow anything from seed anymore!

I gave up in spring, hubs bought starts and took over but neither one of us has ever been good at this.

So I’m going to throw everything at the wall and see if anything will stick.

The hugelkultur bed only has one spot to fill in. I about did myself in last Friday trying to get it done. I still need to put manure and mulch down but am waiting for the smoke to die down.

I started a bunch of winter type stuff strictly to see if I could even start anything anymore. I either water too much or too little so my seedlings either rot or shrivel up. Now that I’m feeling better maybe I’ll be able to keep up with things better. (Got thyroid meds dialed in, lost 25 lbs, did physical therapy and got a lot more active)

I started a bunch of seeds in paper towels and sandwich bags. Most of them are trying but I think I waited a tadbit too long to try and do something with them. I have my doubts-the tutorials look much more promising than IRL.

I have several self watering setups-a cup within a cup and water bottle-both with wicks and the egg carton in a tray set up. If anything lives I’m going to try and find out which method is best. I don’t want to waste a ton of money if I still can’t grow anything.

The mockingbirds got more of my tomatoes this year than I’d like. Now, thanks to a sudden burst of warm weather, I have twenty-five-and-counting volunteer tomato seedlings in the front yard. Part of me is tempted to dig ‘em up and overwinter them indoors. The rest is more sensibly hoping for a few more volunteers at the RIGHT time of year.

We had a week of what could be considered typical fall weather here in Central Missouri. Sunny and mild, then some rain, then sunny and warm, now quite cool.

The pumpkin patch and sunflower field are ready fall plowing. That can happen any time after the ground dries up a bit.

Yesterday I got ambitious about cleaning up the kitchen garden, but 15 minutes into the job my (not so) trusty old Husqvarna weed whacker decided to take a dive. The fuel system is leaking again. All of the lines and the primer bulb have been replaced fairly recently and now it’s leaking where the return line enters the gas tank. The only local shop that services Husqvarna will only work on machines that they sold and this one came from Lowe’s, so I’d have to ship the thing to get it fixed. I’m going to skip that hassle and replace it with a new Stihl.

The rains have kept me from working on the pond, but I’m keeping it pumped out for now in hopes of some dry weather ahead.

Rocket is now ~5 months old and she’s becoming very independent. She’s decided that she’d rather sleep in a tree like a proper coon rather than sleep in her luxury coondominium. She took off yesterday morning after I gave her breakfast and we didn’t see her at all the rest of the day. Normally when we’re out working in the yard she’s constantly underfoot. I don’t expect that she’ll stay gone too long but who knows?

Hope no one minds, but I’m just going to ping the list to last weeks thread. Enjoyed reading last weeks posts off and on for a minute at a time today.

Lemon tree is blooming and smells so good. Turmeric is growing, and aloe is desperate to be transplanted.

Have had some computer problems. Still having trouble sitting anywhere other than reclining. Xray had good news and bad news.

No fracture or herniated disc. Significant demineralization-expected due to long term hyperparathyroidism. Degenerative disc disease all along spine, and some spurs. Worse in lumbar area. Dr. has ordered MRI.

Chiropractor has helped. I can now stand for 5-10 minutes without major pain. Sitting is the worst. I have been catching up on kitchen cleaning 5 minutes at a time. Doing a little walking, and stretching exercises.

Bathroom tile is done except for the utility/water heater area - door to that will need to be shortened. Work on green house continues. The concrete patio area where the new footing will go has been busted out.

Trench has been dug, and holes are being made. Holes will be finished tomorrow, and forms set maybe. If work permits, concrete pour on Monday. Getting ready to sit in tub and get muscles warmed up for evening stretches, then heading to bed. Will check back Tuesday to see what going on.

Hope all is well with everyone. Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Harvested my last eggplant for the season yesterday. Colder weather is supposed to be with us this week and with the time change coming, seemed like a good idea. Going to use it in my spaghetti sauce this week. Pulled up my one and only basil plant for the same reasons I did for eggplant. Made some pesto sauce and will use it on my grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. Caladiums dying back and will replace them with pansies. Roses continue to bloom profusely. Transplanted the lettuce and kale seedlings. Hoping for a nice salad by Thanksgiving. Hope all is well with everyone in the group.
