CNet ^ | 10/11/17 | Ty Pendlebury

Posted on 10/11/2017 9:28:06 AM PDT by markomalley

Facebook users around the world have experienced an outage of the social network this morning, which appears to be still continuing for many.

Users report being unable to use the site, and others report unusual behavior including elements such as the "post" box not appearing.

The outage of the network is being tracked by independent site Down Detector, where users continue to report issues.

Represenatives for Facebook did not immediately resopnd to CNET's request for a comment.

Right now a lot of victims of the California fires. Facebook is helping get aid to people needing evacuation of livestock, keeping people aware and updated of livestock, particularly horses who have been picked up and trailered out as to the location of them.

I don’t like the politics of Facebook or the ads that I get but I see daily with lost and found pets, amber alerts, fire updates, etc. the good that comes from it. Local alerts on traffic accidents, road closures and horses on the road are invaluable to local residents.

Without FB I would have no contact with brother-in-law in Denmark. I could not easily keep up with a dear friend of 40 years fighting cancer in North Carolina.

Facebook is what FreeRepublic COULD HAVE BEEN if they had listened to SOME of us 20 years ago.

You post an article and people comment on it. Except unlike FR you can easily cut and paste images, and make lists of friends and other features.

But hey... JimRob didn’t want to sell out “to the man” ... or something.

So instead of being the single most powerful conservative outlet, he has to go begging each quarter.

Keep in mind you can use Skype and it's free. That's how I have kept in touch with my friend from Malta after I dropped Facebook.

If a conservative had started something like Facebook 20 years ago, it would have been sued out of existence in a year. FB gets away with unauthorized hosting of copyrighted material because they play the game.

I have skype and use it. There is a time difference between Nevada and Denmark which makes it’s use inconvenient for frequent use. We use it for holidays and birthdays. I’ve also used it to talk to ex DIL in Australia and friend in NZ. It is useful but not nearly as convenient as FB.

Via FB my son and DIL can let me know when they are traveling that they have arrived safely or update as to where they are. Instead of making multiple expensive phone calls from Europe to update many relatives and friends, one FB post will do that. That’s another example.

I realize many here avoid FB like the plague. I understand their reasoning. I find it very useful and convenient. I have no need to broadcast my life and every movement on it as many do. I can however, in just a few minutes, find out what’s going on in my little corner of the world.

Oh, yes, I understand.

I even opened up my account again to get in touch with someone recently but Facebook banned me right away calling my posts SPAM. They said I had to identify myself by several different time-consuming ways even though I use my actual name and number and always have.

I kind of took that as a sign that I was right in the first place to cancel my account.

I do have a Twitter though to keep up with our POTUS. :)

~Smile. I have a Twitter account for the same reason. Check in every day just to see what he’s said to outrage liberals. ;)
