I cried like a baby when my homeschooled, hopefully Christian, son shipped out for the Navy.

He did 6 years and is now going to college on the GI bill. We sure didn't have a GI bill when I was in the Army.

It is truly a proud day when you watch your child volunteer for military service.

The few...the proud...the brave! You must be so proud as well! May God bless and watch over their service to His great nation.

Sempre Fi...and welcome to the family!

Semper Fi to your fine young sons...they will return as men.

I graduated from the Island 21NOV84.

Your post reminded me of something that I had not thought about in awhile...Marines argue
among themselves on which MCRD is worse, Parris Island or San Diego...PI Marines
will say swamp and sand fleas, SD Marines will say Mount Mother and so it goes. While I
argued that we had it worse, as I age one thing sticks out to me that says maybe I was wrong
about that: When you are on The Island you are in the middle of no where...when on
MCRD SD, you are right by the airport and in the middle of it all. It would be torture being
a first phase recruit watching those planes take off every minute of every day for 12 weeks.

Semper Fi and congratulations. They will most likely go to the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton in the 55 area of the base. Make sure you go to the graduation, you will not be disappointed and I personally guarantee everyone will stand for the national anthem being played.

“They wanted to go infantry and held out to get that before signing.”

You’ve raised two industrious and well-rounded young men. Don’t be surprised if the Marine Corps nixes the idea of infantry for your two sons and instead assigns them an avionics or intelligence MOS.

Remember, the Marines are not only looking for a few good men but also men who can fill slots that call for resourcefulness and the ability to solve complex problems.

Very good! It is imperative that we have good men and women in our Armed Forces.

Please thank him for his service and sacrifice to our country. There is no doubt that he will be a great asset.

81-85. The “deal” I got was $5400 for contributing $2700. My son is getting a full 4 year ride + 4 years of room and board.

My WW II Marine Corps uncle recently died. His son and grandson are Marines. One retired, the other active duty.

Thanks for clarifying.

I was in the Army 70-73. I think got around $270/month with the GI Bill. With VA work study helping other vets get set up and other part time jobs it worked well.

You have raised two good men.

Our enemies tremble in fear of men such as these.

It is a good start of an amazing life.

You should be proud.

My dad was in the Army when I was born, in Ktown, and he also got a full 4 year degree in the old GI bill. I was just in at the wrong time but I got saved in the Army. Eternal life really beats a 4 year degree!
