This old song dug out of the archives only due to the fact the radicals are attempting to remove COLUMBUS from our history in the hopes he will soon be forgotten.
Rewrite the song with the words "Goodbye Indigenous people"?
Mmm... Ali MacGraw...
Rather than place the focus on Ali, let’s consider Jack Klugman or Richard Benjamin or even the song rather than the movie. Don’t remember having seen the movie but the song is well remembered.
1969...............
Columbus Day is perpetually overlooked as an opportune time to discuss Islamic jihad through the centuries.
In 1453 Ottoman Turks took control of Constantinople ceasing trade between Europe and Asia.
By 1492 Spain was closing the period in it's history identified as "The Reconquista", ending the 780 year period of Islamic conquest of the Iberian Peninsula
...the same year Columbus was finally granted permission to seek an alternate route for trade with the East.
Given the influence of Islam in the region, convincing the royals this venture was possible was an uphill battle.
Perhaps hundreds of years of stifling Islamic scientific influence is where the 'earth is flat' presumption emmanated...
The words used to describe the shape of the earth in the quran are :
All are synonyms for flat in Arabic.
Heavens forbid people wake up to recognize the detriment of centuries of Islamic hegemony by recognizing the 780 year Islamic colonization of Iberia resulting in the Reconquista and necessity for alternate trade route which ultimately led to the discovery the Americas.
Reconquista, and Columbus’ voyage to find new route to India and China

From 1964, with the Beatles and the Beach Boys, through about 1967, with Spanky and Our Gang and the Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Then, the nasties started to show up, feasting on all the idealism and naiveté. Sirhan Sirhan, James Earl Ray, Charles Manson, the Zodiac Killer, the Black Panther Party, the Weather Underground... the whole beautiful thing turned into a hateful disaster.
But for a few years...
I guess it was the period of recovery after JFK got shot. Kind of an Indian Summer of our culture.
Interesting given that the song is about Columbus, Ohio, and the University of Ohio.
!Halt the DC settlements in occupied Algonquin territory!
The ‘60’s was a great time to be living in Southern California. Sure, there was too much smog, but we lived in the world’s hottest economy.
It certainly didn’t hurt that the state and the region was run by conservatives for much of the decade. In 1961 Angelenos chose Sam Yorty, a conservative Democrat, for mayor, and in 1966, we put Ronald Reagan in the state house. In ‘64, we also rejected a Kennedy man, Pierre Salinger, and elected George Murphy, a solid conservative, to the US Senate. Our public schools, presided over by Superintendent of Public Instruction Max Rafferty, another hard-core conservative, were among the finest in the world.
Today, that seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Enjoyed that. Thank you.
I saw a documentary, I think it was about the Zodiac killer, where they interviewed a detective who had worked the Zodiac case back in 1969.
He said something like "in '67, you were supposed to come to San Francisco with flowers in your hair, but by '69, you would have been wise to also be carrying a revolver."
Humans migrate for many reasons. The indigenous people in America migrated. When two groups of people run into each other, many times the inferior culture disappears or is absorbed into the superior one.
The Europeans were superior in technology, science, weaponry, social organization, organized religion, laws, governments, building, medicine, transportation and so on. The people who were here were overrun, as the europeans population increased and needed more space and resources. Wars were fought and land settled and the people with seniority lost out. Those are the facts of life.
This anti-columbus movement is anchored by leftists and Mexicans in the US who forget they have Spanish blood in them.
Columbus was brave and a great explorer. As a person of European descent, I am thankful he came here. I know his voyages lead to the greatest nation in the history of the word. Thats why I celebrate Columbus day. If you want a day get your own.
Good advice for visiting SF in 2017 as well. Also, if you park your car on the street, don’t leave anything inside the passenger compartment. Little piles of window glass on the roadway tell you why.
These dummies need to take down all the Ericson statues and leave poor olde Chris alone.
Or maybe it was that other Italian, Amerigo Vespucci. Heaven forbid there are statues of him in the U.S. /sarc
Then we’ll have to change the name *USA*. This is getting too complicated for my feeble brain. :)
And then, there is always Guido Sarducci
