VANITY--What would YOU do? (NFL related)

Posted on 10/09/2017 8:50:40 AM PDT by AbolishCSEU

My husband is (was) a HUGE Steelers fan. I mean MEGA GIGUNDA fan since childhood to the point of having a tattoo with the Steelers old school emblem. AS for myself, I couldn't care less--not a big football fan to begin with. I prefer hockey but I digress.

My son and daughter in law are HUGE Packers fans. They are conservative, however, they try to overlook all the stupid anti-Trump protesting/kneeling that is going on just because they like football.

Earlier this year before all this anti-Trump protesting from the players, I purchased 4 very pricey NFL tickets for Heinz field (Steelers vs Packers) plus two pricey hotel rooms and a pricey parking ticket. We had gone on a trip such a this a few years back to Lambeau Field

Now hubby does NOT want to go and wants me to sell the tickets. Which we probably won't be able to get at face value now anyway.

Son and DIL still want to go for a rare outing (they have full time jobs, hubs has a full time business of his own plus a part time job and I have the same scenario)

For sure, this will be our last game ever if we do go.

What would you do?

Ah...I misread. I thought it was four season tickets.

Well, as other posters have said, enjoy the hotel, and if you go to the game, you can make it your last one.

Sell the tickets through NFL Ticket Exchange. You will probably get a decent price. People advocating you burn, rip or shoot the tickets aren't being realistic about how big a sacrifice that is financially, and I bet wouldn't be willing to do that themselves. [Somewhere between $500 for 4 of the worst and $2500 for 4 of the best seats. Ouch.]

Go see Pittsburgh. It's a great town: Carnegie Museum, Science Center, Sports Center (right across the street from the Science Center) Bird Actuary, Phipps Conservatory, the Mon Incline, also hourly river tours of the city are very reasonable.

My Dad took me to my first Steelers game in November 1960, and I have been a YUGE fan all my life -- in the very long decade before they became a great team -- so I feel your husband's pain. I turned off the Steelers after Tomlin and what is apparently a handful of angry militants forced Alejandro Villanueva to perform a public humiliation for coming out of the tunnel. Antonio Brown is one of them, and according to a story my wife read, he is now causing on-field problems for the team. I've never like the guy because of his antics. Naturally he hates America.

Disgraceful.

> You are the type of person who gets an argument started then stands back and enjoys while it escalates aren’t you. <

Not at all! Going to Primanti’s is part of the Pittsburgh experience. And asking for a sandwich without fries enhances that experience.

(That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.)

Burn the tickets so no one is sitting there, and let the hotel know why you are canceling your reservations.

Copy this post, minus the question at the end, and send it to the hotel, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers, the NFL, Vice President Pence and President Trump.

Let them know it’s their right, and your right to tell them what you think of them disrespecting the entire country and politicizing football.

We all know it was about the Concussions. What happened to the lawsuits? Oh the NFL rolled over the DOJ and now they have been politicized.

Unless you can unload the tickets for what you paid and get your deposit back for the hotel rooms, go to the game and enjoy yourself. Symbolic gestures which end up hurting you financially are pointless - even the players kneeling will stop the instant it hurts their wallets.

go “past “ Pittsburgh and go to Bedford, antiques, good restaurants. The 9/11 memorial is around there also.

Sell the tickets to the highest bidder. Include the winning bidder must include a patriotic video denouncing the NFL’s actions.

The Shenksville 9/11 Memorial is about an hour and a half away from Pittsburgh.

Selling Steeler tickets is a no brainer. You won’t have any problem selling them.

Such first world problems.

Sports team groupies make an investment. It declines in value. She can't get their money back. Tough noogies. It's called reality. Deal with it. Hardly worth a vanity post on FR. Grow up. And nobody on FR cares how many full or part time jobs the husband, the wife or the kids have. Or how many businesses they own. Why would we?

To add to my #15 comment - If hubbie is still against going, convince him with the family time together reason.

BUT make a deal with your son and DIL that you will do something together with whatever the hubbie chooses to do (i.e., he has top control of the agenda for rest of that weekend).

The NFL cares if you buy the seat, not if you sit in it, so it’s too late to boycott.

This^^^

BTW, it would appear that your son and DIL are the brains of the family.

I have not watched a game this year, save a Packer game, but you already purchased the tickets, so go with no shame. See pic below (note hat).

Your already out the money so either go or gift a deserving family that has never been able to afford to go....... If ya do go make a point of telling everyone you encounter its your last use of said mode of travel, hotels, restaurants, etcetera till the NFL can separate sports from politics. Voting with your dollars is just as important as voting for polidiots ......

My opinion only.

Going to Primanti’s IS the Pittsburgh experience. Anyone who goes to Pittsburgh without getting a sandwich at Primanti’s hasn’t really been to Pittsburgh.
I think half the city cycles through there every day.

I have eaten there twice. Great food, just don’t make any “special requests” concerning the sandwich.

“(That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.)”

You do that. ;)

BTW, I think that old lady won’t be happy unless she dies on the job.
She obviously loves the place.
