“He opened the show in place of the usual, ridicule Trump skit. and sang a Tom Petty song. It was tribute to Vegas and Petty. I thought it was moving.”
So did I until I realized the song sung on SNL by the guy who fled the stage at Vegas was “I won’t back down.” Gates of hell, and all that.
It seems a rather ironic choice of song given that he fled the stage. While that may have been entirely rational or even the only choice given the circumstance, “I Won’t Back Down” and running away do seem more like polar opposites.
