Congratulations, you have hit upon the answer. Only problem is, when are you going to start? You want your back covered? Why do you disrespect those that actually did it, some before you were born, that didn’t care about your color, and gave of their lives, and worse, so you could sit there on the bench on their backs to do nothing. And if it is not accomplishing anything but disrespect, why do you continue to do it.
You say you can’t worry about how you are perceived. You are in the entertainment business and it is your job to create a relationship with the fans that have a continued wish for them to buy tickets and jerseys. Otherwise, they don’t make any money and you get laid off or the league goes broke. And don’t say that can’t happen as professional leagues and teams have gone broke before. For you it’s called a personal conduct policy. Maybe you should read it.
Talked to a congressman, senator, or a president? Talked to the press so they could see it? Made your case with anybody?
Some of your peers have said they didn’t know they were disrespecting the fallen. They knew about that before the grass responded from original knee anyone put down.

Keep it up, Marcus - you and the other players will probably get pay cuts because many people - including myself - could not care less about the NFL anymore. Why? Because you are forcing a captive audience to watch your protest antics. And, by the way, you should look up the truth about how often a black male is shot by a white policeman/-woman. For starters, a black man is more likely to win the lottery or get struck by lightning. But people like you probably think several black males get killed by police without cause every single day. I'll second that. Why would anyone listen to the complaints of somebody who doesn't have enough respect for our nation to stand for the national anthem? Plenty of people have issues with current politics, that's part of living in a republic where citizens' votes determine the law and government policies. But everyone should respect the system, our nation, and the sacrifices of those who got us this far.
Does Marcus Peters really think it is appropriate to dishonor the men who served in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment? He should read about William Harvey Carney, who earned the Medal of Honor for actions he took to protect the unit's flag. Carney said "Boys, I only did my duty; the old flag never touched the ground!"
Regardless of what he thinks about contemporary issues, respect for William Carney should be enough to get Marcus Peters off his butt.
