fox news ^

The drug, marketed as Valium, is part of a class of medication known as anxiolytic and sedative, which are commonly referred to as benzodiazepines, Scott Dehorty, LCSW-C, executive director at Maryland House Detox, Delphi Behavioral Health, told Fox News by email. Citing the Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program, the Las Vegas Review-Journal identified Dr. Steven Winkler as the prescribing physician, but he was not made available for comment.

...

Dehorty described diazepam as a “highly addictive medication, which can have paradoxical effects.” He cautioned that continued use of the medication could cause patients to suffer from symptoms they initially sought relief from.

I think I had hospital delirium once...lol

Had to stay there three days due to an ice storm...slept on a very uncomfortable roll-away bed in a storage room by the ER.

I saw a lot of confusion in older patients that had a TURP, that’s a transurethral-resection... a bit like a roto-rooting of the prostate...eeek

Was on them for a year during my divorce, ate them like tic tacs, then I quit taking them.
Had a couple of crappie days and didn’t sleep well.
After that all was good, never had them again

Nicotine, then Heroin, then benzos, then opioids. Or so they say. Remember, it varies by patient. But yeah, nicotine is harder to kick than h, or so I’ve been told.

One of my bros had an episode of it after a long time on a ventilator, had to go along with it and humor him until it passed.

I don’t like to think of anybody messing with my plumbing - as you said, just the idea of it is Eeeekkk.

What do you call it when an adult has an opposite reaction? For most people, a shot of Benadryl is a guaranteed nap. Not for me. I’m tired for almost exactly one hour, and then wired for about the n ft 6. I never make executive decisions.... that’s too much adulting for me LOL!

As you said, it varies by person. But my thinking on one reason why nicotine is so addictive is that people associate lighting up with so many common, everyday things (e.g. after a meal). Other drugs & meds. there’s usually not such linkages made. Also it’s just a whole lot easier to come by than heroin or prescrip meds.

I take it and always make sure to turn off my computer beforehand. I have bought stuff on EBay and did not remember. I have eaten without remembering too but not that often.

I know someone who was addicted and her doctor told her she had to reduce the dosage gradually. She was told she could die if she went cold turkey. She is also a recovering alcoholic so it was a mess.

I think we’re looking at it backwards. He didn’t become a mass murderer because he took valium, he took valium to dull him out so he could commit mass murder.

Well it wouldn’t be a mass shooting without anti anxiety meds involved. :-)

Actor Heath Ledger took 3 different benzodiazepines plus some opiates in the drug cocktail that killed him.

Yes, a gradual reduction is the only way, and even that is not easy. If you backslide even once you are right back at square one.

And yes, quitting cold turkey can easily kill you. It is the worst thing ever.

I did this once, I was awake for 3 months straight, and I forgot how to write and speak. The side effects of CNS rebound are unfreakingbelievable.
