Video at the link. Full title: Wow | River gauges/pics show the Mighty Mississippi River going dry! - NEW Tropical Storms

The vlogger received photos from some truckers who pass by the Mississippi River frequently. They said it's lower than they've ever seen it before. The vlogger accesses NOAA water level information that indicates water levels too low (or absent) in some stretches of the river to permit shipping.

And yet, some of the comments attached to the video say it's normal or it's all lies - even the NOAA information. Too much rain to be the result of drought.

Seems that with all of the rain that Irma dropped over the Ohio Valley it still wasn't enough to provide much relief.

Yup. It dropped. Then this year it flooded April and May with reports of the river cresting etc. It’s still soggy in surrounding areas.

how does the river dry up for 120 miles.

How can the river have water both above and below the dried up area?

ILLINOIS is in a drought, especially south central Illinois. My sister and brother have only seen a few inches since early summer. In the spring there was heavy rain and flooding, then nothing.

This happens on the river every couple of years. Nothing te o get excited about. One year it got so low that a wrecked steam boat was discovered near Cape Girardeau. Pretty cool.

The Upper Mississippi river is low because of drought, but the barge traffic is still moving. The Army Corps of Engineers is working to maintain the 9 foot navigation channels.

Locks and dams create a series of pools, with a 9’ navigable channel all the way up and down. It’s a “managed river”.

Isn’t there a verse in one of Hank Williams Jr.’s songs that says the Mississippi is going dry. And, that was a long time ago.
