McConnell: We're Going to 'Crush' Tea Party Candidates in GOP Primaries (what's good for the goose)

Provocative comments over the weekend from Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will provide grist for the 'grassroots vs. establishment' mill for some time. In an interview with the New York Times about the 2014 election cycle, McConnell predicted that Tea Party-backed Senate candidates will get wiped out in GOP primaries this year:

This election season, Republicans led by Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky are taking a much harder line as they sense the majority within reach. Top congressional Republicans and their allies are challenging the advocacy groups head on in an aggressive effort to undermine their credibility. The goal is to deny them any Senate primary victories, cut into their fund-raising and diminish them as a future force in Republican politics. “I think we are going to crush them everywhere,” Mr. McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, said in an interview, referring to the network of activist organizations working against him and two Republican incumbents in Kansas and Mississippi while engaging in a handful of other contests. “I don’t think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.”

As I stated in the other post Mitch spent $30 million to try and defeat Roy Moore. Let’s see how much he spends supporting Moore against the dimoKKKRAT. I would not be surprised if he funneled money to the dimoKKKRAT.

Republicans are NOT conservatives. They never were, and they never will be.

Conservatives are just as much threat to republicans as they are to the democrats. This is why republicans like
McConnell act the way they do when it comes to the TEA party and conservative politicians.

From the outside looking in, it’s actually the conservatives who are trying to highjack the GOP. It’s about the only way to break into the deeply entrenched two party system.

I understand the anti Mitch sentiment. His rhetoric can be taken another way besides a challenge to war.

In Tennessee, he is correct or probably correct. Tennessee is conservative Republican but not conservative. That is , a conservative has been shown over and over and over to have no real chance against a “Republican”

Moore-like conservative will not likely prevail against the establishment Republican. To me that means the establishment Haslem will likely prevail over the Conservative Brown in the race for Corker’s seat. Of course I am but an observer and can be wrong

I hope your predictions are right on the money. Get 60 Senators, increase the house numbers, get rid of McConnell and replace him with Cruz or Lee and Boom, get Things Done!
