SI ^ | September 26, 2017 | Peter King

Following an NFL weekend that saw players and teams respond to President Trump's comments about the league with more demonstrations during the anthem, The MMQB received numerous emails from NFL fans who said they’d had enough of politics mixing with sports and are done watching the NFL. Here are some of those messages.

I foresee my Sundays being alot more productive now. Last Sunday installed a tile and gravel walkway in the yard.

For the first time in decades, the hubs and I chose not to watch Monday Night Football and guess what, we did not miss it one single bit. I'm thinking this Sunday will be equally as liberating.

When you go looking at fan paraphernalia...back in the early 1990s...you could still buy a Bears t-shirt for $8...a regular bears jacket for $50. You go looking for the premium Bears T-shirt today? $29...before taxes. The leather jacket goes in the $600 to $700 range. The regular jackets around $120.

Ask yourself...who pays that kind of money? It’s the middle-class guy. Who pays the $131 ticket for a Bears game? It’s the middle-class guy. All this business just makes that guy question where he’s spending his money.

Wouldn't you if placed in the same position? I mean, how can anyone have a high opinion of someone who actually spends their own money to purchase a jersey with another person's name on it?

Seriously, what kind of tribal ritual induces the kind of behavior where fans are so desperate for inclusion that merchandise is perceived as an entrance requirement? It's more like a crazy cult - do cult leaders respect their members? Or, do they think they are ridiculous 'tards that should be ripped off and mocked?

And the NFL is 65-70% disadvantage black players making a paltry several millions a year. Oh the humanity. Maybe start a GoFund for them, huh?

Everyone wants to belong to something or feel proud of their hometown. Its an extension of themselves. Sports fans have been with us since at least the Coliseum in Rome. I don't really blame fans for that.

But it is certain that the NFL became very comfortable with their monopoly and government/media position, and saw the "rubes" (fans) as a perpetual money-machine.

yes there is BS and always there will always be this BS because they are children not men. It our job to be there for these kids and teach the boys to be young men and the girls to be young ladies.

Called my buddy who works in the building where Art Rooney has his private office. Seems the parking lot is once again full to capacity.

Spin Control Meeting 2.0 is apparently underway.

At least the Bears did not kow-tow to the cop killers last Sunday. Can you imagine what George Halas would have done to these punks? He was a Naval Officer in two wars. They play in Soldier and Sailor Field.

Halas was the Most Valuable Player in the Great Lakes Training Center win at the Rose Bowl. He rejoined the Navy in 1942 and won a Bronze Star under Chester Nimitz in the Pacific.

Now we have scum like the Rooneys running teams.

I grew up in Alabama and have been a huge Bama fan my entire life. My high school football/golf coach played for Coach Bryant and was the backup QB behind Kenny Stabler. Even with my deep-seated devotion for the Crimson Tide, if any members of the team pulled any of this anthem protesting BS, I would withdraw my support for the team and find something else to do with my Saturdays (i.e I usually go to 1 or 2 of their Big games per year). I pray to God that this does not happen as I do know that Saban stays out of politics.

Most big city police chiefs are willing puppets of the liberal mayors who hire them. Any cops who don’t show up will be suspended and/or fired.
= = = = = = =
All very true BUT, like the ‘kids are wont to say’

THEY can’t arrest all of us..

Can always show up and not do job BUT I would be right up on that band wagon to get them canned.....

Like when people say what do you expect to do with that handgun when that ‘mob’ comes after you.

I ‘rely’ on the theory that MOST of the mob doesn’t really have a ‘dog in the fight’ and just following along and part of the group will crap their pants if they SEE a weapon being pointed at them...

I figure on ‘getting further away’ while they are ‘regrouping’ and if necessary may be able to take a couple of them out. (That’s not considered premeditated now is it??<: <: <:)

So true. They want to “fundamentally transform” us by insinuating their crap into every minute of our lives. They dictate what bathrooms we have to have, what pronouns to use, what genders our kids may “choose,” and what thoughts are forbidden. That’s so true.

While acknowledging that, I don’t care that much about football. I only care that the flag and the anthem be respected.

For the rest of the game, and halftime, they can protest all they want. I’m fine if they want to wear “F___ Trump” stickers on their helmets, or “Open Borders For Everyone” patches on their uniforms. I’m OK if they bring in BLM, Green Day, Samantha Bee, Michael Moore, or whatever other America-hating clowns they pick to lecture and amuse us during the game.

But the two minutes for the anthem and the flag should be respected by all. This is the last public ritual of patriotism, of our common nationhood. Can’t there be one little decent thing left that unites us as _Americans_?
