The Flag Code covers all aspects of etiquette in relation to the Stars and Stripes, including how to behave when the anthem is played.
The code is never enforced, however, and there is no punishment for breaching it.
So what should you do when the national anthem is played? The code states that persons present are expected to stand and face the flag, if there is one.
Civilians should stand to attention with right hand over heart, while military personnel in uniform and veterans should salute throughout. A recent amendment to the code said that military personnel out of uniform could also salute.
President Barack Obama famously neglected to put his hand over his heart during the 2008 election campaign. He explained his mistake by saying his grandfather taught him to do this only during the pledge, and to only sing during the anthem.
Democrats have no code or honor.
A novel thought:
Place a prison sentence as punishment for not doing so.
Bottom line? We are all supposed to understand that NFL millionaires paid by NFL billionaire are to be respected more than the American Flag because they believe the false narrative of “hands up, don’t shoot” and that the fans in the stands and the police are racists and deserving of disrespect. So they disrespect the flag and disrespect their fans to try to prove an irrational point that THEY deserve respect as phony dissenters.
I knew this by 1st grade & that was a hell of a long time ago. We also had a prayer before school started.
The protocol for the flag displayin the hammer and sickle is to kneel on one leg
As a veteran, I was proud to salute the flag at a parade not long ago at The Citadel. And was filled with enthusiasm as their band played “Dixie”.
The Naval service only salutes when in uniform and covered.
I’d very much like to salute, but am uncomfortable doing so in mufti.

The above link is to the Marine Corps Flag Manual. While it pertains just to the Marine Corps, many of its provisions are probably repeated by similar documents for the other armed services. This is because they all have a basis in the public laws and presidential executive orders governing the flag.
Annexes A, B, and C of the manual contain pertinent excerpts of those laws and executive orders

I never heard that lame excuse before. Even Hitlary put her hand on her heart.
But Obama obviously has other priorities, and considers his "privates" to be his heart. I think he learned that at a bath house.
