I need some options to get rid of my Direct TV service.
There are a variety of streaming services that fill the gap. All of them have a free trial.
For starters check out PlayStationVue, DirectTVNow and Sling.
Also, it doesn't matter which direction is SW...{:-}

I pulled the plug, and sought out some content in other places - It didn’t take long to learn that it’s ALL utter BS.
Youtube is an app built into most tvs and stuff. Don’t let your kids near it, but use it for the treasure trove of information and lectures that are hosted there.
Netflix is cool too but it too is totally leftist BS. But if you need entertainment there is no getting away from the lefties. AT least don’t pay a lot for it.
I use Freerepublic.com and drudgereport.com. The rest is garbage.
Withdrawal is treatable with either solo therapy (whiskey) or collaborative therapy (sex).
Once the withdrawal’s over, your new problem will be combating the addiction of binge-watching.
Seriously, though, cutting the cord was the best thing I ever did. Lots of time and i watch what I want. I still buy DVDs in the 5 buck bin for a library and occasionally whip out a good movie (since they’re so hard to come by these days).

Very, very expensive.
Now I am completely disconnected. The only difference is I actually go to some movies now.
Otherwise, everything is available online.

Get a decent internet connection (at least 12MB/s, a bit faster might help but “gigabit” or 100MB/s won’t, video streaming isn’t that fast yet, and you can upgrade later if needed).
Get an AppleTV. New ones just came out today.
On it, get Netflix, Hulu (commercial-free), and/or Amazon Prime Video (when available, soon) apps. Peruse other video apps (Fox News, Livestream, many other apps which act like specialized “channels” but with more content and are on-demand), including sports apps. They usually cost a nominal fee (like $10/month, though some are free), but that all adds up to still a lot less than “TV”.
Find a local Redbox for new movies cheap rental. See what’s at the local library.
It’s OK to lament loss of a few shows. You’ll get over it when you realize how absolutely crappy most TV really is, and how much you’ll come to hate commercials.
Gardening.
If you have ATT cell service, upgrade to the unlimited data plan and you get then get DirectvNow for $10/mo with free HBO. You’ll need a good broadband plan, too.
Direct TV Now is likely going to be a lot cheaper than FIOS TV.
And there is a reason that Verizon has dropped most of its landline and fiber markets. The future is OTT, 5G, and Microcells.
I cut the cord and they tried to charge me an extra $480.00. (they deducted it from my bank without my approval). Make sure your contract is over. It took me 4 months to get my money back! They are EVIL... I went with Suddenlink. Got the TV with the stations I wanted, phone, and internet for less than I was paying for Direct alone. Suddenlink has all the football stuff (Red Zone, etc.)
You are finding the content elsewhere, what I learned is to not even desire the content anymore.
When I stay at a hotel I’ll pop on the TV for a bit before I can feel myself going insane. The content is just the worst now - it’s horror-movie grade ads (Seriously, you see these things ? And how much of it there is now?!) and reality TV which I have 2 friends who have been on and told me all of their secrets.
Reality TV is simply the worst. That was the final nail in the coffin of visual content. Of any kind.

- Amazon FireTV Stick (discarding soon)
- Blu-ray disc player
- Several Redbox kiosks nearby
- Libraries
- Lots of my own discs I haven’t watched yet
- Netflix
- iTunes (buy/rent, not cheap but exactly what & when I want)
- Hulu (but will cancel very soon, just not much I watch)
- Amazon Prime Video
- Fox News app
- ABC News app (still the best for breaking news)
- Livestream
- Numerous high-profile TV channel apps
- and no time to watch anything.
Same here! Was paying nearly $260 per month for cable, Internet and Phone. And now:
High Speed Internet: $85.00 mo.
Ooma (Phone service): $4.85 mo.
Netflix: $9.99 mo.
Sling: $20.00 mo.
HD Antenna, Apple TV and home media fill all other gaps. Paid for all needed hardware with less than 2 months of what I was saving on cable.
No-brainer.
I looked into this just last month. The ONLY good internet in my neighborhood is comcast cable. To buy a Tivo DVR with the features I’d want is 170 plus a monthly 15 dollar fee. To get the Pac-12 network for football and basketball the only option was sling tv which would be around 45-55 a month. When I started looking at the Roku and Amazon fire devices many people reported audio issues through a home theater.
Currently I don’t think the technology is quite good enough yet. I fully anticipate in 5 years it will be.
Don’t forget to buy a $25 antenna. I live in BF Kentucky and still get some decent vintage movie channels (grit, movies, this,get, classic) I would definitely put these up against $75/month cable premium movie channel crappola. Also ME TV is great for vintage television. I do pay $20/month for sling during baseball season to watch my Reds but will cut that in two weeks.
