Drink Coffee, Live Longer
AARP ^ | July 11, 2017 | Austin O'Connor

A pair of new studies show drinking more coffee offers life-extending benefits.

Good news (in a venti cup!) for those who love coffee: Two new studies show that drinking more java could help you live a longer life.

The health effects of drinking coffee have been a point of debate over the years, with some studies showing negative effects and others positive. These just-released studies should calm the jitters for those who rely on their daily jolt — or jolts — of caffeine to get through the day. The first study, conducted by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the Imperial College London, surveyed more than 520,000 people in 10 European countries, making it the largest study on the correlation between coffee and mortality ever conducted in a European population. Its finding: Drinking more coffee significantly reduces the risk of death.

I already drink 10 cups a day.

What I’m waiting for is some new thing that deals with chronic insomnia.

“some new thing that deals with chronic insomnia”

Sleep is for the weak.

Plenty of time to sleep after you are dead...

“Sleep is for the weak.

Trying to be socially acceptable is already a true PITA. I’ve been told that the drooling and glazed eyes look isn’t very attractive so it ain’t helping much.

What about those of us who like the caffeine in coffee, but are not too interested in drinking hot beverages that aren’t soup? Does direct caffeine intake in the form of a pill also have beneficial health effects? Taken with moderation, of course.

Drinking more coffee significantly reduces the risk of death.

For some reason I find that statement absolutely hilarious.

There is a good Norwegian study (thousands of subjects over decades) that shows 3-5 cups of brewed coffee a day reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s by 50%.

Mice studies in the U.S.A. give the same results.

Has to be brewed coffee. Hot water, caffeine, and instant coffee do not give the results. Only brewed coffee.

AARP creeps me out for a whole bunch of reasons.

Just one example—they allow United Healthcare to use their name for marketing purposes and United Healthcare is a terrible company with awful health care insurance plans.

I wonder if Keurig counts as brewed coffee.
