Windows 10’s market share increases slightly as Windows 7 continues to stumble

Looks like Microsoft’s Windows 10 is growing very slowly now. Last month Windows 10 market share had grown by 1%. The new report by NetMarkeShare revealed that Windows 10 share has increased to 27.99% from 27.63%. Good news is that Windows 10 market share is still increasing but very slowly.

Windows 8.1 market share dropped to 6.07% from the 6.48%, Windows XP’s share also decreased slightly. On the other hand, Windows 7’s market share dropped slightly to 48.43%.Image Courtesy: NetMarketShare.com

Although Windows 7’s market share is dropping, Windows 10 is still far behind to over take the former. Windows 10’s market share is likely to see a big jump as recently Gartner revealed that 85% of enterprises will be upgrading to the new OS by end of this year.

Microsoft is going to end Windows 7’s mainstream support 2020, more organisations are likely to upgrade to Windows 10 in the coming months. Apparently, Windows 10 will soon replace Windows 7. “Organizations recognize the need to move to Windows 10, and the total time to both evaluate and deploy Windows 10 has shortened from 23 months to 21 months between surveys that Gartner did during 2015 and 2016,” Gartner said.

As Windows 10 Fall Creators Update release is also on cards, Microsoft will be able to convince more users and urge them to upgrade to Windows 10 as the OS much better now.

Win 7 would be excellent with a proper file system.

Well, when you force updates onto my machine, that’s going to happen.

Makes the old three ring binders and clip boards look pretty good, doesn’t it? Oh, God bless the morning reports.

Windows 10 vs. Windows 7 ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Wait, I'm confused. Win7 goes from 48.38% (Oct '16) to 48.43% (Aug '17), and that's a STUMBLE?? That's an increase. Or is this being done with New Math or something? It appears to me that Win10 is increasing (from 22.59% to 27.99%) at the expense of Win8.1, WinXP, and "Other" (presumably Linux, Unix). Win7 is holding its own, market-share-wise.

Do we sense an agenda here, folks??

I miss the old Royal 550 typewriters or the IBM Selectrics. At least, then, when I finished typing something I had a "forever" hard copy and no computer malfunction could take that away from me ...

"I bought a new computer and all I could get was windows 10. I hate it. But they said the new computer already had windows 10 and they couldn’t change it. Windows 10 is absolutely horrible."

I've bought two (used) HP laptops just to get/keep windows-7.
I disable 'auto update' as soon as I receive the computer.

Windows 10 is pretty decent. Best feature I’ve found so far is the ability to use remote desktop across multiple monitors. Make working from home a much nicer experience.

Recently got a new work laptop from the company I work for. Unfortunately, it came with windows10. Crap and garbage.

Biggest issue: Won't run vmware workstation without having to screw with the BIOS and some obscure hacks to get it running because VMWare doesn't like hyper-v. So far, I haven't been able to get it to work, and managed to get the system into such a bad reboot loop that I had to reload it from scratch. Yet again, microsoft has managed to steal hours of my life.

Download Classic Shell (it’s free) and you will be very happy - your W10 box will once again seem familiar.

I despise W10, but clients need new computers so I install Classic Shell.

I use W7 in a Mac. 100% love it.

Windows 10 SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!

We have had nothing but trouble with our computers since it was installed. Loss of printers, computers going into sleep mode and having to physically shut them down and reboot multiple times to get it to load. Don’t get me started on updates that take hours to install...

Only slightly after they pretty much abandoned Windows 7?

That’s not good.
