Tijeras Resident Faces Off With Bobcat
KOB4 ^ | September 04, 2017

Posted on 09/04/2017 12:58:10 PM PDT by nickcarraway

A Tijeras resident has a stare-down encounter with an area bobcat.

Bill Bentzen sent this video to KOB and writes, "I was just sitting outside of my front door about 6:30 p.m. when in the corner of my eye I saw this bobcat coming my way. It didn't notice me at first but as it passed it noticed me. We had a little stare down but it lost interest in me and went on its way. "

Bobcats are known to dine on rodents, rabbits, quail, deer and insects, according to New Mexico Game and Fish. If you encounter a bobcat in your yard, stay indoors and leave it alone. Make sure to keep pets and children safely away.

If it were rabid things could’ve gotten ugly.

They’re out here, along with coyotes, bears, mexican grey wolves, mountain lions, and the occasional badger.

When face-to-face with Bobcat, make no sudden movements.

I faced off against a bobcat once, but I lost and they laid the cable. Something about having an ‘easement’, or something like that.

Powerful rascals for their size.

I saw one the other day slinking through my yard and the one in the video looks small maybe young.
I have a big one wandering. Dogs are staying close.
I probably should have fired a warning shot to scare it off but, it was a stunning beautiful cat and I was too busy admiring it and wishing I had my camera.
It was about the size of my 40 lbs dog.
That dog would not mess with it. The Jack Russel chases anything. That would be bad.

Earlier this summer there was a rabid one that attacked a dog and his owner in a subdivision just north of Phoenix. It was caught and after an autopsy the dog's owner need rabies shots.

I stayed at a B&B just outside of Santa Fe NM that was called the Bobcat Inn. It had numerous stuffed bobcats in the common area. The well-known green chile cheeseburger joint, the Bobcat Bite, was just down the hill from the place. The restaurant moved to town and is now known as the Santa Fe Bite.

I’d prefer to have a bobcat visit to my yard compared to the armadillo that meandered around my place last night, leaving little excavations where he found food.

They are fun to drive but you need that protective cage.

Powerful rascals for their size.

Picking up a running chainsaw by the chain would be less hurt than picking up an uncooperative bobcat.

About 20 years ago, on the first day of big game season, I came across a Lynx and her two young. I hadn’t see her behind a bush and when I passed by, she hissed at me and startled the bejeezus out of me, but then trotted off with her family in tow.

We don't need no stinking badgers.

No kidding, the last one I saw on the ranch had been dead and in the sun for a couple days.
