Weekly Cooking (and related issues) Thread

Email news this week brought this Betty Crocker recipe for Ravioli Casserole that looks very good for an easy, work-night meal made partly from prepared foods:

Trying to ‘zing up’ my husband’s favorite roast pork loin, I found several recipes for pork that include a fruit chutney that doesn’t look too pungent:

Here’s a trick I learned from MOM for easy peaszy chicken pot pie.

Shredded left over chicken mixed with a can of Veg All and a can of cream of chicken soup.

Dump that in a casserol dish an to with bisquick mix
Bake that at like 350 until a tooth pick comes out clean

It aint great but its pretty dang good LOL

Had a pulled pork sandwich yesterday at the VFW, made in one of them fancy crockpots. It was mighty good with diced white onions, pickles and sweet baby rays bbq sauce.
and a frosted mug of beer!

My husband just left to buy a “Boston butt” that he plans to smoke today to make pulled pork. I don’t know what he plans to serve with it, but it probably depends on what he finds available at the market. He loves the smoker, but he also uses a crock pot for some dishes. It makes good chili.

These are miniature version of Victorian-era tin cans.

I do the same thing. I store the grater in one big Ziploc bag and a bunch of chunks of Parmesan in a smaller Ziploc bag within that same large one. Then I just grab it from my deli drawer in the frig when needed.

I don’t seem to have any problems with rust on it, like I thought I would storing it that way!

That’s what we had for dinner last night. I used one great big zucchini and three extra thick pork loin chops.

Marinated for 24 hours in thinly sliced onion, garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, coriander, fresh rosemary and basil, coriander seeds and some paprika.

It was super nummy.

I recall them...I think they were called *Hoodsie cups* .... small portions of ice cream w/ a wooden spoon/stick.

Under the lid, often there was a movie star's image portrayed. I think the idea was, you could trade them w/ your friends.

I loved the cowboys!

LOL...I used to try to beat my brother home from school...so I could drink the cream off the top of the bottle. If I didn't get there first, I'd be outta luck.

Then came ...homogenization. Drats.

{{{Maybe that's what's wrong with me.}}}

Say the word *vintage* and I’m all in!

I’m beginning to think we need an antique/vintage *weekly* thread. ;)

Well, that was kinda depressing.

I understand her sense of loss, but she really needs to let go. Stuff is stuff ...and to be immensely grateful that they were not killed in the fire. Stuff is just stuff.

I know nothing about the psychosis of hoarding. Which could be her problem.

Apple Roses in Pastry / A sensational presentation ..... the technique is inspired.

Roll-up thin-sliced small apples (skin on) in puff pastry or pie dough strips.
PREP Spread pastry w/ thinned-out apricot jam. Hold sliced apples in lemon water.

Bake pastry crisp and golden in buttered muffin tins 375 deg 25-30 min.
Serve dusted w/ conf.

That is a great crate. I wonder what the hole is for over to the right. Maybe someone used it as a yarn box so they could just pull the yarn out.
