Re #7:
Ah, there’s the rub. I have a five shot Taurus .357 (loaded with .38 hollow). The problem is that with the enclosed hammer it’s difficult to keep it in place in a holster. There’s nothing for a strap to grab onto and I don’t need it tumbling onto the floor.
Find a better holster.
Or just put it in your front pocket.

I never understand why people will spend several hundred dollars on a gun and then go cheap on a holster. I own several quality holsters for my Airweight Bodyguard with shrouded hammer and it doesn’t fall out of any of them.
But I had this generic Uncle Mike’s once and...
Try a Mika brand holster, available in either round or square bottom according to your need.
You should see if Fobus has a holster for your model. They have a number of Taurus revolver holsters on their site.
The Fobus grips the frame of the gun and trigger guard. I’ve become a very big fan of Fobus holsters and have one for every semi-auto I own. They hold the weapon quite tight but still allow for a quick draw. My first choice for OWB.
Like 2banana says, find a better holster. Leather holsters form-fit to the gun type by a reputable maker will not let the gun fall free. A good holster will hold on to the gun even if the wearer turns a somersault. Kydex holsters form-fit for the gun should do the same thing.
I’ve carried a hammerless, lightweight j-frame for years in a leather holster and never had it come loose, including while doing things like picking up things on the floor or tools, firewood, etc, outdoors.
For the OP, a lightweight j-frame in a good holster on a purpose made gun belt can cover the majority of emergencies a gun is need for in most civilized parts of the US, in my opinion.
I’ve had one for My 1911 for over 15 years and never had any problems.
